So I have been in Brussels for almost 2 full weeks now. I am certainly ready to come home. Living in a hotel is not new, however, I am normally on my way home after 2 weeks. The 14th will be here before I know it.
I have been to Gent twice now. Once last Sunday, 5/2 and again today, 5/8. I had gone last Sunday on an outing as one of my coworkers was supposed to find some mustard from a place that has been producing it since 1790. Unfortunately, it was a bust, as the place is closed on Sunday. That did not stop us from looking at all the beautiful architecture, taking lots of pictures and walking through an old castle. I think the highlight of that whole day was walking across a bridge and hearing live music coming toward us. A small boat full of people with brass instruments and a big drum passed under us playing YMCA. It was fantastic. I am working on uploading my pics from last week to Flickr right now, and I managed to snap one of that boat. The public transportation is certainly way better here than in the US. Taking the train to Gent was easy and using the trolley system was very convenient.
Monday through Friday was the same as last week. Lots of long days and conference rooms. Next week will be more of the same.
Today's trip was a lot of fun. Last week, I went with 4 coworkers, and this time, just 1. Alan and I went in new directions and had a very enjoyable time. More importantly, he was able to get the mustard he was tasked with getting. I had a waffle while there, and I have yet to find any waffles that equal what Off the Waffle in Eugene are creating. Those cats took and good thing and made it better apparently. I will need to make it to Liege though for field research. I guess that will have to keep until July when I next come to Brussels.
Adding to my beer list, I have managed to sample the following if memory serves.
Mort Subite Kriek
Gueuze (not sure if this was Mort Subite or not)
Corsendonk Blonde
Duvel
Tongerlo
Maredsous
Grimbergen
Chimay
I think that is all from the last post. Th Maredsous was fantastic. I would definitely have that again, and again. ;-)
Leffe is the only beer I have had twice so far. I found a nice Indian place last night and had Leffe and Chana Masala. It was a nice combination.
