I spent a few days in Sheffield, finishing off the bridesmaids' dresses for the wedding of
serenasnape 's brother and then attending the wedding. I can speak highly of the Rutland Hotel, where
miss_next and I spent two happy days having a sewing bee. I can't speak so highly of the roads around Sheffield, which feature frightening junctions and confusing signage. On the other hand, when I missed the turning to Totley (where the wedding was) I found myself on the edges of the Peak National Park, which was a great pleasure.
G came up to join me on the Friday evening and we had a very pleasant Thai meal, and the next day was the wedding - yes, all the dresses were finished in time. (I must pay a tribute to the bride, who remained remarkably unalarmed by my last-minuting.) We had a very enjoyable time - I would like particularly to mention the beautiful song written to the bride by the groom, I wish G could write songs - and improved our acquaintance with
ajmnewma 's excellent parents. (And with the excellent contents of his, and his wife's, hipflasks.) All things considered, a lovely break - and even the ghastly 5-hour drive home won't spoil the memory.
