Notes: One of my favourite scenes in Hikaru no Go and my favourite Hikaru/Akari one.
Summer had ripened to Autumn - raw greens forged into gold by long months of humid sunshine. The muted glow of the sun was drifting towards a concrete horizon and the bronze-tin bells rang as leaves dripped slowly from molten trees and students leaked from schools.
She called to him and saw that Hikaru had also ripened, becoming richer, with steady depth in his eyes. His rash brightness had dimmed to a diffuse, welcoming energy.
She was charmed, but wary of the unfamiliar. Until he spoke: “You’re shorter.” And the old brilliance broke through in a burst of summer light.
