You ask me? I was almost impaled by a rain of forks from the upper shelf of the cupboard! And why are the spices in the oven?

Just don't touch anything in the kitchen. I think that's best.

I'm in the Bazaar, getting breakfast. If you want something specific, now would be the time.

Hey, don't look at me; I can't cook. I went to use the sink this morning and it spat out orange juice. I think we need to speak to the landlord. What I wanna know is how my bed got short-sheeted while I was asleep in it.

Breakfast? [pause] Any good fruit in the market? Apples or... I dunno, something summery. Least there's one good thing about this weather.

Orange juice? Was it any good? See if you can get some in a pitcher?

I don't see actual apples yet, but there's some cherries and strawberries. I'll figure something out! Let Rosalind sleep, she came home really late?

I dunno, I was too busy trying to keep it from getting everywhere. I'll test it.

[pause, then there's a telltale pale orange spot on the corner of the paper.]

Huh, it ain't bad, actually. Where's the pitcher supposed to be? I don't wanna get attacked by forks looking for it in places it wouldn't be.

Cherries and strawberries are both good. Any paopu? I can meet you in the market; Roz'll be grumpy if we wake her after her late night liaisons with forensics, after all.

I'm not sure about the pitcher, but I saw an empty juice bottle or two in the drawers.

Paopu? I'm not sure I know that one. What's it look like?

Oh, sure, I'll wait by the bakery. Just leave Rosalind a note if she wakes up, to come join us. The kitchen is a hazard to life and limb, and I couldn't even find the Skillet of Shielding! We need a battle plan, I think, and you can't very well make one on an empty stomach.

Okay, found one. There is now a bottle of OJ in the fridge. Enjoy. And paopu is like big starfruit, kinda. It's about six inches across, shaped like a star.

[pause.]

Note left, on my way. I'll bring the camo gear and warpaint so we can be prepared for kitchen warfare when we get home.

Then I'm afraid there's no paopu here. I'm sure I would've seen something like that. It's raining, but the Bazaar is under a roof, so I'm sure we'll find a place to sit.

[Kagerou is standing outside the bakery, inspecting her loot of breakfast rolls and vegetable buns. A healthy breakfast is important, and while she will miss Rosalind's pancakes, this might be the next best thing with the kitchen a danger zone.

There's a flicker to the air and a gust of cold against her face, and Lea emerges from a portal only a few steps from her. She'd jump, if the sensation wasn't oddly familiar.]

Good morning! I've got fruit and bread, and cocoa in those handy covered mugs, so we should be set. [A basket hangs from the crook of her arm, and her hair is swept up into a bun, somewhat hastily.] Maybe we can just find a bench. It's like a picnic lunch, only it's breakfast.

[His hood is up at first, in an effort to protect his hair from the rain, since he's never certain he's actually going to end up where he's hoping to, but upon successful arrival at the bakery beneath the overhang, he tugs his hood back and grins.] Yo. [He lifts a hand in his casual wave, though he is, alas, bereft of both camo gear and warpaint. To his knowledge they don't actually own any--it was mostly for effect--but if she's actually disappointed he's not opposed to procuring some. Might make the return home a little more interesting, if nothing else. He waggles his fingers in a generally 'that way' direction.]

There's some covered tables over by the tea place, aren't there? I don't think they'd mind if we borrowed one, do you?

[He doesn't seem to have brought the promised guerrilla materials, but it's better to let the plan dictate the necessary resources, anyway.]

Mm, I don't think so, and we can always order some tea to go... with the cocoa. Or say we're related to an employee, isn't that supposed to work? [She quirks her mouth in thought.] Or well, I am, but you're my brother, so maybe it works by proxy?

[She hands the paper bag from the bakery to him, turning towards the tea shop. This is nice, in a homey, everyday way--she's worked so many early shifts she's generally missed Lea in the mornings.

There are a few empty tables when they arrive, so she points out an out-of-the-way one, and they seat themselves. She carefully pries out the mugs and her selection of fruit.]

Well, this is more interesting than sitting at the kitchen table, even if the reason we're here is a bit irritating.

[He sits down and sets the bag on the table, letting her dole things out, since he's not even sure what she got. Accepting his cup of cocoa, he holds it a moment, watching her arrange the food and then chuckling at her remark.]

I dunno, right now the kitchen's pretty interesting if you ask me. I wish I'd known you'd been attacked by forks, we could have fought back with little rubber darts and projectile ping-pong balls. Youth and I found some excellent armaments in the Wilderness. [He takes an experimental bite of the vegetable bun she has offered him, and finds it actually quite tasty.] Have you been down to the Wilderness this time yet? It's pretty neat, if you ask me. More stuff in there than anybody'd know what to do with.

I was sort of busy trying not to make a horrible racket when the forks were about to spilled out!

[She tries to huff, but it turns into a laugh. It is the sort of thing that turns funny the moment it is over. The cocoa is still hot, even if it is nice in the cool morning, so she picks out a few strawberries and a vegetable bun for herself, too.]

Oh? You did? I'm happy the Wilderness is something less hazardous again, so maybe I will have to take a look. I don't get to go down there very often.

Just mind how much stuff you bring back, I suppose. We don't have infinite space, after all! Not that I should criticise, my craft materials do take up a lot, I know. [A pause.] You wouldn't have found any water guns?

Reply

[quicklog] seeya_next_life July 6 2010, 10:30:23 UTC
Mm, wasn't lookin' for water guns. [This is said through half a mouthful of cherries.] But I wouldn't be opposed to going back, if you wanna go check it out. S'one of those places you could get lost in even if you had a buddy, you know? Youth and I wandered around for what seemed like miles.

Oh, I meant to ask--how did your apprenticeship go? [He takes another bite of vegetable bun; they really should do breakfast more often.] You were with those guys who were like...blowing stuff up, right? [A laugh.] How'd that go for you?

[quicklog] weaver_girl July 6 2010, 10:40:42 UTC
I mean, it's so hot. Maybe a water gun battle would be just the thing! Like when Mr. Stoneface organised the soccer match in the Park.

Oh, that would be nice, or maybe I'll try to drag Rosalind out for a bit. Let's see about it when I get home from work.

[She chuckles through a mouthful of bun, then hastily swallows.] It was awesome! Definitely a little like transforming into a mecha! The episode with the tree was definitely an accident, though, we weren't too good with the morpher-things yet.

[quicklog] seeya_next_life July 6 2010, 10:48:53 UTC
Oh, that might not be a bad idea, actually. Well, if we go to the Wilderness, we'll have to see if we can find some. Roz needs to get out of the house--here I thought I was a bit of a hermit...

[He gives a genuine laugh at her enthusiastic report, then takes a sip of his cocoa, shaking his head.]

Wait, wait, morpher-things? Mechas? [He makes a beckoning gesture with one hand, indicating she'd better start explaining, and start from the beginning.] Sounds like you had quite an experience.

[quicklog] weaver_girl July 6 2010, 11:08:37 UTC
[She chuckled, now a touch self-conscious, but excitement won out quickly.]

Morphers! The things we morphed with. Or, that's what Ghost said it was called when we put on the suits and got ready to defend the... Sphere, I suppose.

[She didn't let the slightly less brilliant conclusion deter her.] Well, I always kind of wanted to be able to transform. Miss Locket makes being a robot sound awfully interesting, and convenient! I liked the explosions, too, though I was a bit afraid we'd end up with more collateral damage.

[quicklog] seeya_next_life July 6 2010, 11:13:40 UTC
I can appreciate explosions. [Another bite of vegetable bun, and he chews thoughtfully before continuing.] I'm surprised Nova and I didn't make more things explode. Who knew she was a firebug too, huh? [A pause and he quirks his mouth then.] I dunno that I'd wanna be a robot, though. It'd sure make rainy weather an additional occupational hazard, don't you think?

So you actually like morphed...into something? Not...not robots... [He really isn't quite sure what to make of all this.]
