All I thought I needed was a cell phone. I got one for the first time in early 2002 when I lived at ISU. I had three other roommates, two of which had boyfriend/girlfriend and were always on the phone. My phone calls were always missed or I was never home. The only time I could talk to anyone was late at night. Back then, me and Louise would talk on the phone for hours and hours at a time. My mom would leave embarrassing messages on the answering machine too. This needed to stop. So I thought, 'I had a job, I'm making some money. It only makes sense to get a cell phone.' People could get a hold of me when they needed. I would get all my messages. Problem solved. I got the lowest amount of minutes since I didn't talk to lots of people for long amounts of time. And if I did, they would just call the house phone. A year past, I moved back home and went to school at Roosevelt. I made no friends while I was there. And I was basically a hermit crab for close to two years. At that time I was paying for a phone and the only person I talked to on a regular basis was my mom. And I lived with her. When I was thinking about moving out, I told her I wasn't even planning on getting a land line phone in my apartment because I don't call anyone and my cell phone is what I mainly use anyways. My brother does that and it seems to work for him just fine.
Fast forward to present time, and now my phone rings at all hours of the day, continuously. I never thought I'd actually want to talk to people on the phone, because I used to be so anti-phone. But now I feel weird if I don't get at least one phone call from somebody not related to me a day. I changed my rate plan for one that had more minutes and bought extra text messaging. Still didn't cut it. I went over my minutes and my bill is bad this month. Ouch. Lesson for the day? Keep track of your minutes. Don't call people before 9pm. Or if you need to, call them from your land line and talk until your heart is content. If you need more minutes, upgrade again because its cheaper than paying the overage fees. If you get a boyfriend, definitely upgrade again.
I'm getting more hours at work. Which I desperately need because I'm surviving on peanuts at the moment. I'm soon going to have to pay back my student loans. When I move out, I will definitely still get a land line but without long distance. Local calls only. I predict me moving out will happen sometime this year. Preferably by summer. And it also looks as though I won't be going into the city just yet. I think I might stick to the south side for the time being. Cheaper and I could afford my own one-bedroom. I don't mind it though.
Also note to self: Stop txt messaging entire conversations. Just call that person up. It's cheaper and faster! I pay an extra $2.99 for 100 txt messages. I already went through them all!!!
