The Prophecies of Oprah Winfrey

Jan 07, 2007 20:19

Looking through pages of quotations organized by author tonight (dont ask, long story, minor project).
point being: The authors are listed with a number next to them indicating the number of philosophically useful bits of information they gifted humanity with during their careers/lifetime/etc. (or at least in the opinion of this website.) Some of them are as follows:
Socrates (23)
Lao-tzu (20)
Aesop(34)
and so on until you reach: Oprah Winfrey (42)

really? REALLY? They are relatively uplifting, even if they may only be paraphrases of every known self-help book marketed towards middle class suburban housewives....but still, more worthy of time and space, even to an insignificant website than what history sometimes refers to as its great thinkers? But I suppose that Oprah has a daily offering of witty quote-ready soundbites to offer, whereas to uncover jewels of wisdom for other thinkers would require both patience and a moderate reading level and comprehension.

Fortunately, the site redeems itself later by offering 232 quotations from the most reputable source, the bible. And that's where its all really at, then isn't it. You've got your bible and Oprah and surely you don't need anything else.
