Huh, I was pondering the exact set of happenings and wondering if it is 'significant' to the mytharc of the show...or just repetitive writing. I want it to be significant...but do you think it truly is?
I think it's at least significant in terms of the strengths of the relationships Dean builds. And their loyalty to Dean is a good contrast to Dean's self-esteem issues--Dean's selflessness inspires the best in others.
I LOVED the LOTR quote. I barely had time to wonder if they were going to point it out or not before Sam did. And I loved that Dean called Samwise Rudy.
When Sam asked what broke Castiel's connection with Naomi, I half expected the writer to jump into shot, throw two fistfuls of glitter in the air, and say "Why, Castiel's epic love for Dean, of course!"
