A young boy, fair of face and eye, older then he looks. Betrayed by his own fear, condemned by his loss of faith in self.
“Monster!”
The world screams.
“Once a Child.”
Some will answer back.
Wide innocent blue eyes, an at times uncertain smile. One of four: youngest, smallest, weakest.
“Rat!!”
The world does growl.
“Friend,”
We remember,
“Marauder”
For somewhere there is a bright laugh, of moment of joy and awe, of pride.
“Look!” the boy cries, “Look! I did it!”
“Good Job Peter! We knew you could pull it off!”
“Traitor!”
It is a hiss.
“But once Brother”
We remind softly and, for all the evidence, they can not disagree.
