Tim left me early this morning, so I'm officially on my own for the next few days. I should really get my butt off this couch and head to the barn to ride, but I seem to be lacking motivation. Don't really have an exciting plans for this weekend. Tonight is sushi with friends from work and tomorrow is a riding lesson. I also plan to put

I know there is Biotech in SF, but from what I've seen, no one is really hiring or I'm not qualified for the positions because i don't have a PhD and 5-10 years experience. Not to mention that CA has one of the higher unemployment rates in the country (i think it's #5). On the other hand, I would love to get a research job at Duke. I miss the Hopkins experience of research and I know I can find that at Duke or North Carolina. I want to use my brain again.
Sure I probably won't spend as much gas, but it still might take over an hour to go a shorter distance, with the nasty traffic of the Bay area. Phoenix traffic is mild in comparison. I would like to drive farther and have less traffic than a shorter, more hellish drive.
And, I was sooooo looking forward to a nice big southern house, with a wrap-around porch and a big back yard with trees. If we move to Ca, we will be reduced to renting some small townhouse or apartment. I don't know if i can downsize in so many ways so easily, not to mention that I'd probably have to sell Velvet because it will be too expensive to keep him. :(
I like the idea of trying the restaurants in SF, but Tim does not love to dress up and eat out some place nice, so I probably won't get to try many of those. It would just be a tease. I think Raleigh is going through a restaurant revolution of its own, so I don't think we'd be lacking of places to try there.
Well, now I've gone and made myself depressed. *sigh* If we have to move to Ca, then we have to move there, I will do my best to make the best of the situation. There are really good people, culture, events and cool stuff in North Carolina too. :)
Fitting in is not the problem, I've lived in different countries for various amounts of time and have had no problems. I can adapt to anything, but it's finding what truly makes me happy that is the difficult problem. I don't think the answer is in Ca.

Don't go making yourself depressed, if you have to make the best of any west coast situation, I promise you'll have help ;). Speaking of which, I've been thinking about getting reservations for French Laundry for whenever I can (I think if you call up you get reservations for 3 months out) I assume I can count on you to make a trip if you get enough notice?

I am totally in for the French Laundry, good luck on getting a reservation. We should leave Tim home though, he won't appreciate it, they don't have steak and potatoes. ;)
