Another week that was roundup

Except without the cattle, the horses, the stagecoach

Which I guess means my life really is dull. Maybe if I build an inn the stagecoach will come? Maybe not.

What's been happening?

Just skip this bit - I'm dumping cos it's cathartic.

Mothers. Yeah, I know there can be only one, but sometimes she seems to multiply :( Last week's multiple hospital visits and tests ended up with a diagnosis of something that can be managed mostly through diet. Yay. Unfortunately my mother's been pouting ever since because it wasn't life threatening enough to sound exciting. I think she should just celebrate the good news. Not my mother. Then Sunday morning she does the fainting thing. Which turned out not to be serious either. Tuesday I come home to find she's burnt her arm (very slightly) on the iron. As she hadn't touched an iron for years, that was pretty clever of her. Not that I wouldn't love her to do the ironing, because there is nothing I hate more. Guess I'll have to lock the iron away and childproof the house on my way to work each morning. Last night's drama was 'Oh I have a sudden unbearable pain in my finger' Uh huh. Hmm it went away when she rubbed it for a minute. Yeah. Can you see a pattern? Today I get home late (a hair cut that took forever - and I still don't look like a supermodel) to her lying on the couch like a Victorian drama queen sighing 'I've had such a dreadful day. I'm so tired.' Hmmm she'd cut up a palm frond that I said I'd do on Saturday when I had time. Self-inflicted. Also probably not that much work to cause all that moaning. Does she not realise that if she wants to make me feel guilty she just needs to talk to me, not dress it up in all these layers? Grrrr

I want to run away to Paris next year. She knows it. I know it. Don't make it impossible for me to leave her alone while I enjoy myself on a rare holiday.

Enough about her. What about me?

Work, work, work. Ick... A week full of statistics and what seems to be all of Eastern Europe sending me publications. Everything coming at once from about 4 countries. Weird. Two days looking at Czech, Polish, and Slovak music scores till my eyes bleed. Another three days with books from ... oh surprise! Czechoslovakia, Poland, Slovenia etc. I almost killed myself coding up all the diacritics. And who knew there was a subtle difference between Slovak and Slovenian? Looked so much alike, even to me with my rusty Russian.

Can you blame me for getting excited when I finally picked up something in English? No! Plus it had an initially exciting title - Sharpening your SAS skills. Awesome! Didn't have any, but was happy to read it and become so much cooler. Erm. Turned out not SAS like people in berets with guns, but a book on statistics.
*sigh*
Oh my life really needs an escape hatch. I'm not picky where the hatch leads. I'll go anywhere.

Apart from that I got another fic out - yay! Despite those feral linesmen cutting my internet connection for days. (I still have their scalps hanging on a post outside as warning to their brethren)

I also seemed to have spent 2 weeks working stupid hours. Coming home from the day job, feeding my mother. Going into writing mode. Working till 1 or 2am most nights. Getting up at 5 for another hour or two before back to campus. Endless cycle *yawn*

Hence the fact that it is 9pm and I need to go to bed.

Except I have one fic that should have been out last weekend, and at least 2 more to do this week to keep to schedule.

And all the non-fanfic related writing to get stuck into in the hope that I can ditch the day job sooner rather than later.

ANd here it is Halloween (I dressed in black today, but nobody noticed - ah well, in wrong country for that), and I'm home and not out partying madly with people who like to slice and dice pumpkins in their spare time. Sad that. Must get a life soon. I'm sure I'm due for one any day.

So, what does the weekend hold in store?

Saturday:
Long hike in the morning before it gets hot and I melt too much (bring me snow!)
Chiropractor at 9 am (my neck shouts YAY!)
Coffee with a friend.
Housework
Afternoon going GLIDING!!!!!!!!!! Wheee. Well, passenger in twin glider, as I don't have a license to flap my wings. Cool. Hope being trapped in tiny capsule with no motor does not remind self that I am a bit claustrophobic. Plan on looking a horizon a lot.
Writing when I get home, and through the night as much as the caffeine keeps me awake.

Sunday:
Back for final few hours with the stonemason I was shadowing a few months ago. Book pretty much written, just need to refresh memory on certain things, and the scent, and feel of all that granite and sandstone dust in one's pores. Also must finish the SPN fanfic with related subject matter (cos I am nothing if not sensible in getting multiple uses out of my research blitzes).
Then home to IRONING (but will not burn self!), and writing into the wee hours before rolling out of bed to start the new work week.

Eek. Am tired just typing that out. Will take lots of vitamins in the morning.

For now, must go write more fic. Then reward with solo screening of new ep (should be finally finished downloading in an hour or so)

I hope everyone on my FList has a more exciting (or restful) weekend ahead of them.

And to those in countries that rock October 31st, I hope you have a great day/a scarier night full of things that go bump, and that you eat many cookies, and only get awesome tricks played on you. Have a:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

real life and all that jazz
