Leoben was obviously still coming to terms with Three's disappearence but he tried to take comfort in the idea that she would have returned home. That it would only be a matter of time until she had a child. She was meant to be a mother more than she was anything else

Kara appeared in the door, clutching at her chest. "My boobs hurt. Why do they hurt already?" She threw her arms into the air. "There's not gonna be milk in them for months!"

Leoben blinked, eyeing the branch in his hand but imagining there was really no way he could pretend to not have heard her announcement. It was possible all their neighbors had too.

He managed a small smile as he set his project down. "Having no mammary glands of my own, I have no idea why your breasts would be hurting you."

"Well, according to this..." Kara pulled an already abused paperback from the back of her pants, pausing only to give it a disdainful look, "'A woman's breats can grow and change in preparation for the production of milk as early as two weeks after conception.'" She waved the book violently. "Two weeks! That's stupid!"

Maybe he should have told everyone about the baby at the speeches for the Council afterall. Leoben glanced at the book only briefly, worried that she would want him to read it if he seemed at all interested in its contents.

"That is sort of stupid." ...Wait. Growing as in getting bigger? That wouldn't be so bad. "And I know it might take some getting used to but it'll work out. Don't you think?"

"What will work out?" Kara tilted her chin to gaze down at her breasts. "My boobs? Or this whole having a baby thing?"

"Both," Leoben said, glancing at her breasts which seemed about the same as usual. He rubbed his forehead, struggling to look sympathetic. "What else did you learn?"

Kara flipped the book open to one of many dog-eared pages. She hadn't gone bookworm, exactly, but if she wanted to avoid frakking this up, it meant figuring out what she was doing. "That I'm tired because my heart's going faster, making all this new blood for the baby. Which, by the way, is this big." With a smile, shy this time, she held up her fingers, thumb and pointer finger about half an inch apart.

Huh. Now that was actually interesting and sort of frightening because he didn't want Kara to get hurt having a baby. Then he forgot that momentarily when Starbuck showed him how big the baby was according to the book she'd been looking at.

Leoben considered her and then the distance between them, before slyly coaxing her to move closer to him with his pointer finger. "Come here."

Kara's eyebrows lifted, but she obeyed. "Why, are you gonna poke it? You won't find it, I tried." In fact, she'd spent the better part of the morning in the Compound bathrooms, poking at her abdomen in front of the mirror.

"No, I want to do this," Leoben murmured, before tugging her closer so he could kiss her.

Kara grinned just before their mouths met, and she let them both enjoy a few languid kisses before pulling back. "The book also says that I might want to jump you all the time," she said with a look like Colonial Day had come early.

"Did the book say when that would happen?" Leoben teased, brushing his fingers over her cheek. He had no objections to having more sex although he wasn't sure that was possible all things considered. "Just so I'm prepared," he added with a smirk.

"I guess," said Kara, climbing into his lap, "you'll know when I start dragging you into the cave by your hair."

"Sounds painful," Leoben replied, putting his arms around her and resting his head against her shoulder. "How many books have you read now?"

"No more painful than the heartburn I'm gonna get," Kara told him, biting the end of his nose as if in punishment. "Four. But I'm keeping this one. The bookshelf can go frak itself, I like this one."

Leoben laughed a little once she was done nipping at his nose. "You can keep it. I don't think the shelf will notice." He supposed she was going to get really made at him at some point since he wasn't going to be going through any changes at all. Outside of having to relocate to a compound suite.
