Another day, another issue. The only difference now was the cylon had become capable of functioning despite issues or at least had moved somewhat beyond simply moping over that which he had yet to solve.

Today's issue was that eventually --although soon was a more accurate word-- Starbuck was going to show and Six was going to find out without ( Read more... )

She was at the Pyramid court, circling it with slow, measured paces, walking in a large circle again and again. Maybe, just maybe, she would find sense in the shape.

"Hey," Leoben said, leaning against one of the goals and watching her.

Six continued walking, not looking at him at all, but listening to him carefully. "Hello," she greeted, sounding distracted and cold.

Leoben sighed quietly and swallowed. "When you're done... Can I talk to you about something?"

Six stopped when she came in front of him, regarding him thoroughly, searching for answers and truth in his face. "What is it?"

At this point, Leoben needed to tell her. "Starbuck's pregnant," he said quietly, uncertainly looking at the other cylon. He had no idea what to expect. He wanted to say he hadn't done this to hurt her but he figured Six would know that already.

Six froze, and all neutral emotion from her face washed away as she stared at Leoben. "She's what?" she asked again, voice icy.

"Pregnant," Leoben repeated softly. Already this wasn't going all that well.

"Pregnant," Six confirmed, laughing to herself, the sound horrible, like an icy avalanche of hate. "Looks like you're not sterile after all, unless Thrace is keeping something from you."

Leoben's eyes narrowed slightly. "She's not," he said calmly.

The male Cylon crossed his arms and continued to lean casually against the goal post. His tone remained conversational but there was an edge to it. "You know, I don't mind the comments you make about me, Six, but the comments you make about Starbuck are starting to get on my nerves. You didn't give Sharon this much grief about Helo and you certainly didn't mind Three getting knocked up by Smith."

"You were the last one," she snapped, voice aggressive and ugly. "I thought you were like me, I thought there were others like me, but I was wrong. And now you'll have the happy family, just like Sharon and Agathon. Congratulations." That part was at least semi-sincere.

"I'm not coming here to rub this in your face and I've never not wanted you to be a part of my life," Leoben replied irritably. "I wasn't expecting this to happen. Neither was Kara."

He moved away from the post and closer to the other Cylon. "Look, Six. You're not going to make me resent the fact that it's happening. There was no good way to tell you but would you rather have had to find out on your own?"

She dug her nails into her palm, hands both behind her back as she looked at him and felt the rush of pain through her body in waves. "I mean it," she assured. "I mean your congratulations. Don't worry, Leoben. I wouldn't steal your happiness."

"I'm not worried about that but I want you to be a part of it," Leoben insisted. "Maybe not right away since you're not happy but I'm not writing you out of my life just because you seem to be set on being miserable forever."

She narrowed her eyes. "You tell me how I should feel, then," she nearly snapped at him, each word measured and icy, "when the man I love just disappears one day, when I can't even conceive if he were here?"

He felt bad for her loss-- of course he did --but so far sympathy seemed to be a waste of his time and energy. Six didn't need sympathy. She needed a kick in the ass.

"Fine," he snapped back, moving even closer until there was little to no space between them. "You know what, just forget it. Godforbid you have to think about someone besides yourself for even a minute or two. And the truth is you couldn't have had a baby with Gaius anyway because he can't think of anyone outside of himself either!"

He glared at her as he continued. "You think it's easy having a baby? It's a frakking miracle, a gift from God. I have to live every day with the knowledge that this unborn, innocent life is going to be born on a piece of shit island where no matter what I do I can't keep her or him safe enough. But I'll give up anything it takes to make that baby happy and provided for. And then there's Hera. She's going to need love and support and an education. She matters more than any loss I have or haven't dealt with and by the way, she's your niece
