A long overdue post

So here we are in March, and I must say this year has gone by stupendously fast.

Picking up where we left off, Valentines day with padlock was great.  He met me at school with roses, and we went to the airport, only to find that our flight was 3.5 hours late.  It would've really sucked had I been alone, but I had him there to keep me company, and homework to do that was due on monday.

We didn't get to our destination until around 2am, and we didn't get to sleep until about 5.  So needless to say, the pups slept in until noonish.

The weekend itself was great, a few discrepancies aside.  I think we learned a lot about eachother that weekend, and how things were going to play out.  If anything, those discrepancies just brought us closer together.

Midterms finished up, and I hadn't had a chance to go to the gym in 3 weeks.  I attribute this to 20% being lazy, 50% being busy, 20% padlock, and 10% being the school gym sucks ass.  It's small, there are no free weights, and a bunch of awkward 20 somethings looking at me, but not like the same looks I was getting in the castro gym.

My sketching class is the one that's bogging me down right now - the instructor says "this is how I do this - now do it" and if it's not up to his standards, you won't receive a good grade on it.  I've yet to score higher than a 3/4 on anything, my lowest being a 1.5.  I think he fails to realize that this IS an introductory class, and yes, while this IS an art school, we need instruction, not just a demonstration.

Other than that, the rest of my midterms went well.  My marketing midterm was the one I was most worried about, and, frankly, I think I did the best on.  It helps that this is my 3rd marketing class so far, throughout my university education.

Spring break was pretty great; was nice to spend time with the family*.  I didn't really get to see any friends aside from mrimp while staying with nerdimusprime and roadster_guy, as well as a girl I went to highschool with and ran into at the pharmacy.  But I did get to see my 2 year old nephew and my brother, which was really wonderful, as it's been well over a year.

Chesaning, my hometown, is dying.  It's like a ghost town now.  All of the landmark sites are now closed: The Heritage House (the ONE upscale restaurant there was), The Bonnemille Inn, The Carriage Shop, as well as several of the factories that employed a large percentage of the 2500 people living in that town.  Unfortunately, I feel it's a concentrated sign of what's going on in Michigan.  That, and the small-town way of life is dying quickly.

I returned on friday to find out that my room (that I had been begging to get moved from for the last month or so, particularly after having around $500 of electronics stolen from me) had bedbugs - particularly in one room mate's bed.  None of the other beds were found to have them.   The administration told us that if we kept things hush-hush, we'd be moved into our own separate rooms for the rest of the semester for no extra charge.  So here I am, in my own room WITH a sink, and no room mates to keep me from napping, studying or... well, any of the other things I like to do.  *cough*

The cost, however, was having to wash EVERYTHING I own in super hot water (lost a t-shirt to it shrinking too much).  Padlock picked me up on friday and we took all of my clothes to his place.  After getting up at 4am pacific time, flying back to california and lugging things back to the dorms, we packed up all of my clothes, took them to his place in berkeley, and I spent the rest of the evening waking up every-hour-on-the-hour to change/fold laundry.  Thank goodness chainedpup is such a good samaritan and picked me up the following day, because padlock left at 8am to get on a plane for Seattle, and I'd either have to abandon my stuff there for a week, or lug everything back via Transit.

In just a little over 2 months, I will finally be 21 years old.  I don't miss drinking (which I did quite a lot of in Toronto), but I do miss the social aspect - being able to meet friends at bars, attend certain events, etc.  Sounds like champsf has plans for it already, so that should be interesting.  It will make for a great summer, too, what with Folsom, Harrison, Dore and Pride coming up, as well as hopefully a trip to Toronto to visit.  (Toronto - you are missed)
