Studios in my building go for under a grand. And they are big, with kitchen and dining area.
We are at Polk and Geary. "Tenderloin Adjacent" but not Tenderloin. The whole city is coming down in price, except if you wish to be an inmate of the Castro. (shiver)
hell, a friend of mind rented a 3 bedroom flat in SOMA for only 2000. 2 bath, full kitchen and living room.
What areas are you looking?

But, seriously. We have rent control and have lived in our place for 12 years. We pay less for our 1 bedroom that people pay for a studio in this building. We couldn't afford to live in our apt if we were moving in today. We'd end up living in SOMA or the Avenues.
Well, SOMA would be ideal, for work and school, but even the surrounding areas wouldn't be bad by bike. I'm avoiding tenderloin, sunset and east bay specifically.

And at 800 you may be able to find a studio and rid yourself of the roommate situation. (unless you prefer the company, some do)
