No Merlin Soundtrack again.

I emailed Rohan Stevenson and James Gosling a couple of days ago asking if they knew of any plans to release a soundtrack for Merlin this year - I missed one last year and hoped maybe they'd release one for series 3 and 4 this year.

Rohan Stevenson's reply:

There are no plans to do a CD for Merlin 4 and in fact we are not contracted to do the music for Merlin 4. The music you are referring to was music I wrote for Merlin 3 and 2.

The producers Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps decided that when one of us was not available, to simply use our past material and hire another (possibly cheaper) composer from overseas. It's in some ways a shame and some ways a relief - Merlin is hard work!

Most of the material for season 4 will be our music from the past series and anything new from the new guy.

If you are really keen for a Merlin 3 CD which would incorporate some great material from seasons 2 and 3, plus maybe even some cues that didn't get used, how about getting in touch with Shine Drama and moviescoremedia:

If enough people request the sound track then they may ask us to put a sound track together for sale. Otherwise you are welcome to download the music from my site. Not everything is up there I know, but there are a couple of nice ones.

we are not contracted to do the music for Merlin 4 This is... interesting. It's their names on the credits this series, still, and some of the music in the last three eps is definitely new - unless they were written for last series and just didn't get used.

I wonder who this 'new guy' is.

Off I go to email moviescoremedia...

soundtrack, i need that coronation music, merlin
