[It's still too cold by his standards, but in the face of entertainment the cold could be endured. Alois watches Ricketts and his pokémon interact from a safe distance. It's about as entertaining as listening to Rickett's stories--which were very fun indeed.

However.]

A sharp gunslinger who can ride a flaming horse? You're a jack of all traders, Landon.

[The older man smirks at the kid as he retrieves his Pokegear from the snowbank it had fallen in.]

All the best ones are, boy.

[He shifts his weight from one foot to the other.]

Really. But you're too old to be a cowboy.

[ooc: ...jack of all trades.]

[He pets the Ponyta's warm neck again, eying the young man's actions.]

Too old, huh? And I suppose someone your age would make a better one?

[If the kid wanted a ride, he could have asked...]

[He does, but asking directly is no fun.]

Perhaps. Though I've never been on a horse. [Been near them often enough, but never on one.]

[That surprises him. He'd thought nobles and the like were all about fancy horses and such. Maybe it's all about automobiles in the future.]

Now, that's a shame. Young'uns ought to know riding.

[Ricketts nods to himself and gestures for Alois to come over.]

[Alois hesitates. He hadn't planned on staying out in the cold for long and yet Ricketts was keeping him with his simple invitation. He wouldn't deny that he was curious about riding on the horse, rather than riding in a horse-drawn carriage or running from them.]

For some. Why would I need to learn how to ride one of those animals? [He comes forward, cautiously glancing towards the flaming pony. It seemed to be an amazing creature. And Ricketts had been able to tame it. Alois was impressed.]

In my day, horses and wagons were the only way to get around outside of cities. Carriages and the like are expensive for most folk.

[The Ponyta lowers her head to bump against Alois's chest gently. Her fiery mane doesn't burn him, but she's much warmer than other horses.]

Need a hand up?

Oh? [It didn't seem as if their times were too far apart.] Only the rich seem to afford such luxury, Ricketts.

[He's surprised by the pony's sudden affection. He patted her head, pleased that he seemed to have received the trust of such an animal.]

...Will you?

Those who travel on foot run the risk of being attacked by wild animals.

[Headpets, yaaay! She gives a soft chuff and stands still as Ricketts kneels, putting his hands out for Alois to use as a makeshift step.]

Grab a-hold of her mane there, and step up. Try using your momentum to swing a leg over an' don't worry about pulling too hard; the filly's sturdier than she looks.

There are worse things than wild animals.

[Alois looks between Ricketts' and the pokémon, delighting in the scene. Having someone kneel before him reminded him of a time not too far off. He smiles just enough to show his amusement before following through with the old man's advice. He wasn't worried about pulling too hard. Rather, he was concerned about falling off the other side of the horse.]
