I'm finally catching up with all of you and my email; I didn't log on at all yesterday -- probably a first, not getting online for any bit of time while at home nor did I log on this morning; instead I spent quality time with Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Ann Curry and Al Roker. Which is the long way of saying ficlets completed remain 3 and word-count is 0.

I think 9 hours a day staring at the computer searching out missing commas and rewriting copy are starting to take a toll. Luckily, we have free massages here at work every other Wednesday and you can bet I was first in line to sign-up on Tuesday afternoon :-)

But yesterday, during the writing workshop, my left eye was so dry that my contact lense actually started to slip out. Which led to all sorts of interesting eye contortions to try to keep it in place, because dope I am, I don't carry saline with me and I really, really dislike the way water feels when you have to use it in emergency situations to pop the lense back in. More importantly, I was trying not to lose the contact because then driving home, at night, would have been even more heart-poundingly exciting than it usually is (as it was, I narrowly avoided getting sideswiped by a yellow hummer and then somehow, my little car nmanaged to squeak by a pothole, the size of which could bury one of those European Smart cars, no problem).

So I was trying not to be distracting while someone was reading his very excellent and funny story but everyone was staring at me and my bizarre eye thing; you know, the rapid blinking, the rolling of the eye, the closing the eye, patting the eyelid, that kind of the thing. Finally, after about two minutes (rather uncomfortable, itchy minutes too - contacts are very comfortable, but gah, when there's the slightly nudge in fit, it swings to the other end of the pendulum and in moments of irrationality, I think about Lasik), the contact popped back into place, but it was still prone to meandering, which is an even more interesting visual experience.

It kind of felt good not to be online though for yesterday and today. My eyes are still sore, but I've switched to glasses today which should help with the dryness problem. And oh yes, must remember to blink and walk away from the computer every now and then.
