Trying to get tech support people off script and onto fixing the things I can't fix myself (and, usually, if it's in script I've already tried that) is often a challenge. Though sometimes if I play the "when I did tech support, I..." card it's enough to jar them into treating me like a real person. Then again, some only know the script ...

P.S. Reading Mira Grant's Feed ... will review it at some point, but think you might like it. And, really, nothing better than a good book to distract you from mid-term angst .

And yes, it's the people who only know the script that bug that crap out of me. It's like talking to a robot. I once had a script guy make me go through the restart and unplug routine four times before he transferred me to someone who knew what was what. I finally just pretended I was doing what was being asked. Turned out it was a problem on their end anyways. Ugh.
