"I now pronounce you man and wife."
The officiant's voice sounded distant, tinny even, to her ears. It did not matter. The words only made official what she had known since he had promised himself to her the day she had left Hogwarts for the last time. There was never going back, as if that was a viable option. She was consumed by him. Addicted. Loved.
If the morning was meant for ceremony, the afternoon was dedicated to partying and well wishes, but it didn't matter. The pair only had eyes for one another. The night was meant only for them.
The air of their bedroom became filled with breathy little sighs and featherlight touches as the pair discovered new facets of each other, previously denied by decorum and tradition. An intake of breath here and a whispered gasp there had the newly joined pair spiraling towards oblivion together. Shudders and cries in the dark had a new meaning tonight, this autumnal equinox.
They curled around one another, satiated for the moment, as Hypnos made his claim. In this moment of bliss, it was hard to imagine a war waged outside their bedroom walls, killing more of their loved ones each and every day. It was even harder to imagine that within three years they would have a child, have to go into hiding, and eventually be driven mad.
But for tonight, it was only Frank and Alice Longbottom who mattered.
