71% of the Earth is covered by ocean. Less than 5% has been explored. The inky depths of the sea have intrigued and terrified man since the dawn of time. As inhospitable to our biology as outer-space and teeming with alien life, deep waters generate a dark, suffocating and primal fear. This Halloween, we at the Mercury invite you to celebrate the deep! Get caught in the undertow!
We kick off the night with an early live performance by local dark-ambient artist, Grim Pig. Rising from the benthic depths of the Mariana Trench, Grim Pig sings the lament of the Elder Gods. Ia! Ia!
http://www.myspace.com/grimpig During Grim Pig's set, witness the writhing undulations of dark modern dance duo Mer Sedna!
At midnight, succumb to the sea-serpentine motions of Hands of Kali!
http://www.handsofkali.com/ DJ Hana Solo and DJ Sprockets will spin a goth/industrial siren-song that will lure you to the dancefloor and keep you swimming all night! Also, the Mercury A/V department is working hard to transform the club into a 'fully submersive environment'. Show up early for party favors and Halloween treats!
Nearly every culture on Earth has a water legend - mischevious water sprites and frog-like kappas, the classical grandeur of Neptune and Atlantis, the blood-chilling tales of Loch Ness and Cthulhu. We want to see your interpretations! The Drowning of Ophelia? Davy Jones's zombie pirate army? Jules Vernian steampunk submariners? Old Gregg? The costuming possibilities are endless! (But don't feel like you *have* to dress in theme. It's Halloween! We want to see your awesome costumes, no matter what the inspiration!)
Let's go suboceana!
