I was sitting in the Poly Sci Student lounge today with a bunch of fellow students. We were prepping for a comparative politics test and Dr. Sanders came by. We asked him a question to make sure about withdrawing from a class after a deadline and somehow the conversation came to a future job. He said something about me becoming a proffessor and i made a joke about how if i was i would be like he was when he subbed for a high school class when he was younger. Dr. Sanders said to me "No, that's with high school kids, you'd be dealing with college students."
I just smiled for a minute and acknowledged his comment but then after walking back to the apartment from the test, i thought about that again and then it hit me. He was acknowledging me as a future educator at his and his fellow Proffessors level as if i was practically there now. That really kinda hit me close to my core, that my opinions, theories and methods were legitamized to the level of a Doctor of the field, or that they should be in the future. Like it was my role to help and educate others. It was just something that was off-the-cuff at first (it seemed) but held a deeper meaning when he corrected me about me teaching college students, not high school students.
That felt good.
