Possibly you've all read by now that drivel in the Daily Prophet this morning. Severus Snape already wrote a
better response than I could. My remaining issue is with this statement: "Yet, even if this small group of werewolves would abide by societal rules, we know the larger society won't."
How, exactly, do we know that? Is the larger werewolf society Greyback and his followers, then? Is the entire werewolf population split into Remus's pack and Greyback's followers? Much like society was split solely into two groups of Death Eaters and Order members in previous years, I suppose.
If the werewolves' collars were removed and they were awarded the same rights as other, non-infected witches and wizards, they would undoubtedly act as the rest of society does--some would abide by the laws, some would break them. In which case we would punish the lawbreakers and leave the ones who abide in peace, as we do with the rest of society. Why is it that this entire group of people is scapegoated for the actions of a few? Meanwhile, Fenrir Greyback, a truly dangerous wizard, is still roaming free, and when was the last time the Ministry made any effort at all to catch him?
