The Weekend of Two Brothers

Jan 13, 2020 05:45

I have 4 brothers--two older than me, two younger. Both younger brothers and the eldest brother all still live in North Dakota. The 2nd eldest purchased a hunting and fishing resort in northern Manitoba near Flin Flon, moving there to live early in the 1970's. Saturday was his birthday, so I sent him a fun Jacquie Lawson e-card early that morning. He called me a couple/few hours later (after an email exchange between his wife and myself, updating each other on new phone numbers and such--keeping track of 9 siblings can be challenging!). We had a very nice 40 minute catch-up chat. He and his wife have retired from running the resort, turning the responsibility over to their youngest son, his lovely and energetic wife, and their 4 offspring.

We plan to catch up more the day before another nephew's wedding on February first. We both expressed hope that we'd have opportunity to do so with more of our sibs that weekend, as well. Mostly, exchanging "I think so-and-so will be there" or "he said he hopes to be there" reports. It was a bit reassuring to find that I'm not the only one who gets out of touch.

Anyway ... my youngest brother also called me on Saturday! He is a manager for Bismarck, North Dakota, city works kind of thing. I'm not entirely sure what all he has responsibility for, but I know it includes streets and parks. Apparently, Bismarck is sending him to some kind of conference down here in the Twin Cities arriving TODAY through THURSDAY! So, I'm planning to go in to work early this morning, leave early this afternoon, and meet up with my brother at his hotel in a western suburb. He'll be pretty busy during his Tuesday/Wednesday conference, and will be wanting to head home on Thursday, so today is our best chance to get together. I sent my boss an email this weekend requesting the shifting of my hours to allow my 3 pm departure. Of course, she probably hasn't seen said email yet, and I can only hope she'll be okay with it. Otherwise, I'm going in at 7 a.m. for nothing. I have faith in my boss.

My younger brother mentioned that he's also invited our shared god-daughter who lives south of the Twin Cities to come up for a visit while he's here. He didn't know yet what she'd be able to arrange, but I just MIGHT get to see my god-daughter today too! Haven't seen her in a couple of years, at least.

So .... my morning is definitely extra short and I must now run along! Take care, my friends! Enjoy your day.

family, surprise
