I love this. <3 Aeryn especially is so heart breaking in it and you don't need to be in her POV to know exactly what it is she's feeling. In fact, that it ISN'T in her POV just makes it stand out all the more. You get raw emotion without that instant rationalization, instead it's realizing what's wrong as John does, and having to accept it.

"You always get your frelling way. Not now John." I can just hear her saying that. I love it. That line just stood out when I read it in perfect AERYN voice.

I love that she touches him and you know she's imagining it's the other John,

Reading this you kind of know nothing else is going to happen in that hotel room and it's kind of okay. It fits in fluidly with canon.

I really love them in this though John is perfectly John, and so in love with her and I love Aeryn not quite able to differentiate between them yet. Such glorious angst and character study and h/c-ness
