Harry Potter and the Impossible Puzzle

"I don't think that works like that," Harry said for maybe the hundredth time that day. It was only the third time, but it felt like hundreds.

They had set up their things in a shady space outside the school house and had been working for hours, picking Hermione's brain in the space between her multiple classes. But even now, Harry and Ron had accomplished a great deal of nothing with the things they had gotten back in January. Disappointed in their so-called gifts, neither of the boys had really touched them again in the eight months that had gone by since. Harry had taken the brooms out to polish the handles, but the collection of hardware Ron had found had traces of dust in the cracks still. It was only a suggestion of Hermione's from half a week before ("Maybe you could try working together.") that had them out here now, trying to figure out how to make this work.

Unfortunately, they had no idea what they had, let alone what they could do with them.

"Maybe we should try putting that circle thing into that square thing again."
