Harry Potter and the Battle of Hogwarts

Mar 26, 2011 15:52

A pregnant hush lay over the grounds of Hogwarts, the eerie quiet of early, dark morning when all good children and creatures should be fast asleep. But no one slept that night. Students, teachers, Order members, Death Eaters, house-elves and creatures of the forest alike moved with silent, purposeful tread, some in fear and some in anticipation of what came next.

The fighting had stopped for a single hour, and that hour had seen its close. Everything was waiting to begin again. The turrets and walls of the castle had ceased burning but now lay in smoking ruin, the foundations still strong but deeply scared. The dead and injured had been gathered and sorted, those beyond help laid out in the Great Hall for their loved ones to spend whatever precious moments they could spare to mourn. Above it all, a clear, dark sky reigned, the stars twinkling down unfeelingly over those that could not appreciate their beauty, their thoughts firmly grounded.

The whole world seemed to be taking a breath, waiting for what came next.
