Literature Entry Week Six

For my week six entry I thought I would finish off a poem that I begun in my common place book. It was inspired by a few of the sonnets we have been reading, mainly Shakespeare’s sonnet 65 which I thought was very difficult to dissect, yet very rich with meaning. Overall it refers to the inevitable destructibility of life on this earth, and also how life can feel or some in hindsight.

Withering, shivering, slipping away,

I shall not linger, I shall not stay.

A blink, a second too late,

More grains of sand slip through the grate.

Perhaps awake, perhaps a dream?

It soars by, a blinding gleam.

Distance before you, never unknown.

Unsettling, perhaps, this shell is, a loan.

Taste and touch, and reap and grow,

If life’s a stage, why fear the end of the show?

Take a bow, a round of applause,

Not even the heavenly stars can defy these natural laws.

I also especially loved Shakespeare’s sonnet 27!

I was skimming through one night and stumbled upon it. I think it sums up quite well the all encompassing feeling of ‘love’ and how overpowering it can be.

Thanks,

Janelle :)
