- photoshop cs 2
- selective coloring (sorry!)

it works really well on gg caps, and most don't need the last step!


step 001
take your image, resize it, crop it etc.


step 002
duplicate it, set the blend mode to luminosity and sharpen the new layer once
layer >> duplicate layer
filter >> sharpen >> sharpen


step 003
make a new color adjustment layer
layer >> new adjustment layer >> selective color
set the colors like this-
RED
cyan: -100
magenta: +16
yellow: +100
black: 0

YELLOW
cyan: -47
magenta: 0
yellow: -31
black: -22

NEUTRAL
cyan: +17
magenta: -11
yellow: -18
black: -18



step 004
duplicate that layer
layer >> duplicate layer
set the opacity to 43%



step 005
add another colour adjustment layer
layer >> new adjustment layer >> selective color
set the colors like this-
RED
cyan: -70
magenta: -30
yellow: -27
black: +22

YELLOW
cyan: -41
magenta: -27
yellow: -27
black: -27

NEUTRAL
cyan: -16
magenta: -4
yellow: +21
black: +3



step 006
now go to the duplicated layer in step 004 duplicate it once more and drag it on top of everything else.



step 007
and to get the best result, duplicate that layer until your icon looks good enough. i did it two more times.
then merge all the layers and you're done!
