In recent months I've read three things which, connected together, gave me the fear.

The first was in bell hooks' autobiography, Bone Black:

"She was sent to bed without dinner. She was told to stop crying, to make no sound or she would be whipped more. No one could talk to her and she could talk to no one. She could hear him telling the mama ( Read more... )

Dworkin is spot on in that comment, which i think applies as well for why some "well meaning middle class white women feminists" get so polarised over Dworkin and Maddona/Whore factionalism. Because if we/they stick to intense scrutiny of who's been the 'bad' woman, who let feminism down, because finger pointing intra-white factionalism about sexual politics evades looking at the role of white privilge across feminisms in not making alliances for all women's empowerment. /hopes that isn't sounding to cynical cos I don't mean to be a downer here.

Also, Cronulla really made me start looking at extreme white supreminist women more, why they're seeking extremely violent males for 'family values'.
Then meeting some and hearing their really despairing, bitter worldview, that this was exactly it -they were SURE that life is brutal for all women, so standing behind a thug trying to be the least worst off was their entire worldview. *shudders*.
