Don't ever think that art school might be cheaper because there are no books. A) There ARE books half the time. B) Supplies are ridiculous.
I've had to spend over SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS on supplies so far this quarter. I'm 3 weeks into a 10 week quarter. Is some of this stuff I will not have to buy again? Some of it will last me a long time, yes, and the technical pens that were a ridiculous amount will last me a lifetime. I'll probably keep one of my textbooks as a reference for a long time. But a fair amount of the stuff? It's stuff like paper, pads, printing, charcoal, etc that runs out fast.
Take this shit into account if you ever plan to do art school. Can you cheap out on some of this? Potentially. Will your teachers downgrade you for not using the right materials, ie ones that cost more? Potentially. Your work WILL suffer whether the prof takes points for not using actual pastel paper or not because unfortunately in some cases the potential for your work is only as good as your supplies. You might be great but if you're using crap your work can only be good, not great.
