Hi, I just joined the group. I'm Martin. I'm not a political animal naturally, but I've become very interested in the past few years as the issues have become more or less inescapable. I consider myself a libertarian, though without the excesses of that persuasion. I'm a free-market, green, queer, Christian, anti-abortion, pro-choice, anti-death penalty, pro-marijuana type of guy. Anyone for fair trade coffee? :)

this column is coming from a much more socially conservative position than I am, but his essential point seems irrefutable. Western European liberal democracy is dying, being replaced by attrition with Islamic elements with no regard for our once-cherished freedoms and institutions.
Why does the cherished ideal of "tolerance" include tolerating those to whom the very notion of tolerance is anathema - and who, given the slightest chance, would take away all our rights?
It's a snide lefty bromide (one that I'm guilty of using myself) that the very people who we don't want to reproduce are breeding like rabbits. But what happens when that tendency plays itself out on the macro scale?
