Dream #1

Jul 09, 2009 14:56

(OOC: Kisame's about four years old or so in this, and killing for the first time; he's pretty damned cute, except for being such a violent little guy. ♥)

(Warning: Graphic-ish violence and death inflicted on a child.)

This was how you became a ninja. )

[ Reels from the dream; it's all so familiar -- the idea that you are different, that people hate you for something in your personality or outlook or your appearance which is off from the norm, and the idea that your own suffering does not deserve sympathy because you do not suffer in silence ( ... )

[Kisame is warm and comfortable, still snuggled down in bed and peering at the propped up Hitomi. The dream didn't really bother him, beyond the initial recovery; really, he's a little perplexed by the speech he's apparently triggered, but he listens respectfully anyway and make sense of it enough to offer a response.]

I've never fussed much about making noise.... I mean, I'd rather speak softly and carry a big sword than sit around and complain, you know? But I'm glad to know we've got something in common, I guess, and that we're both able to do something about it now.

[It's kind of awkward, and he's never really wanted much to talk about himself--he's always been more of a listener type--but he smiles anyway, because damned if he's really gotten this kind of support from anyone else.] Thanks, Leader-sama. If you'd like to talk about this stuff, I'd be glad to.

[She's not sure whether to be pleased or concerned about this. Her kneejerk reaction is to protect him.]

Nagato, are you sure you want to do this?

[Meaning, talk about this. She's unsettled.]

We should... maybe... [she can't find a word she likes] 'reach out' to some of our... employees. Or allies. But.

[She gives him a careful assessing look, trying to figure out what he's thinking.]

Are you sure he's the one? I saw his dream. [She shakes her head.] Shared experience is not empathy.

[She means: don't trust anyone.]

Konan, no one can ever do anything to me that I do not allow them to do. I am fine.

Aaaw, you're so cute!

[Yes, Yukari does think Kisame tearing some kid to shreds with his teeth is cute. Look how little he is~!]

.....Cute?

[Yukari gets a groggy incredulous look and a raised eyebrow; that isn't the word most people would use to describe him, or this sort of dream. But hey, if she likes that sort of thing, then who is he to judge?] Thanks, I think.

You're welcome, I think.

Say, do you have both gills and normal lungs?

Yeah, or I wouldn't be talking to you now; it'd be an even worse pain in the ass to be purely water-bound than it would to be purely land-bound.

[She's never really known or understood this man, Kisame. Her memory of Akatsuki is Deidara and Hidan's yelling voices, Sasori's low hiss, Madara's hidden face. Kisame was a few wisecracks here and there. He was a nonissue.

She frowns. She knew Mist was a brutal village, but that isn't the same as seeing it first hand.]

I thought...

[She's uncertain of how to approach this.]

I'm sorry. I'm Pain's partner. We haven't been introduced. But I thought you were... renowned in your village.

[Which doesn't mean he wasn't also brutally hazed and tortured as a small child, but she doesn't know what else to say.]

[Kisame's attention perks a little, if only because it's the first time he's really known who Konan was when seeing her face on these devices. Damn, but these things do make conversations awkward sometimes.... Just what the hell does being infamous now have to do with kids being assholes to him back then?]

Leader-sama mentioned you before; it's an honor to finally meet you.

[He manages to offer her a smile edging on a smirk, just because it seems like it would be more familiar and reassuring to see, and it's not worth the headache to try and debate civility with someone who definitely outranks him; this happened nearly two decades ago, after all. It shouldn't have to be a big deal.] Oh, I am. I'm one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist--they call me the Monster of the Mist. [Maybe a slightly bitter edge to his voice, but the smile doesn't falter at all; he's used to it.] Or the Scourge of the Mist, if they're feeling nice about it.

[A small laugh, exasperated.] Either way, I'm pretty well known. I'm the kind of guy who mothers in ( ... )

[She eyes him warily. Friendly people, ironically, make her uneasiest of all. She wonders if he has a secret the way Hakkai does.]

I saw you talking to Pain earlier.

[She still feels the need to be formal.]

Your village has a reputation for creating monsters intentionally. That's why I'm surprised that they mistreated you.

[Though actually, given that the ninja world is based on brutal violence against the weak anyway, she's not surprised. She's firmly with Nagato on that one. But still. So much of Akatsuki is proud of being the local boogieman.]

You don't seem to enjoy your infamy, Kisame-san. Most of our Akatsuki members revel in their reputations.

[He nods politely, settling down for the most part into the conversation; it's still awkward, but now, at least, he's prepared for that. Even so, there's still the faded, tattered scraps of pride in his country and village that he's clung to all these years; they make him smile even now as he talks about them.]Infamy has it's ups and downs, just like anything else; I enjoy it when it's enjoyable, and don't when it's problematic ( ... )

[ Is apparently drinking tea, having been up reading over some things, a scroll and a lamp in the background. ]

At that age, it's difficult for them to understand the consequences.

Did your parents punish you?

Mmm, yeah. Shame they didn't, or maybe I wouldn't have had to kill the one who didn't run. [Doesn't really sound very sorry about it; he's not. The little punk deserved to die, as far as he's concerned.]

[He laughs though, smirking.] I got off a lot easier than they did, anyhow. I wasn't allowed out of the house for a month, I got saddled with lots of chores while I was stuck inside, and my parents gave me a ton of practice, or homework, or whatever you want to call it.

Those other kids, though.... Well, my mother wanted to have a talk with them. One dropped out of Academy soon after, and I don't even know what happened to the other one; I never did see him again.
