[Kisa-chan?

Sasori is terribly, terribly amused.]

Hmm, your partnership must be quite close.

[Itachi is not as amused, but Sasori's words also keep him from being too rude.]

We have been partners for nine years. [Why does it feel like he had this conversation before?]

And...despite your...disagreements [oh, he's being so polite about it] it would seem you and Deidara more than just tolerate each other.

[Sasori tries to be as circumspect as possible when it comes to this rather delicate subject.]

I suppose one could say that Deidara and I are able to function together well enough, although we have not been together as long.

[He's quick to add another qualifier, lest Itachi gets any impression of too positive an opinion.]

Even if his ideas about art are completely wrong, of course.

[Disgust briefly passes over his features.]

Considering who my former partner is, well...I'm sure that I don't really need to elaborate further about why that partnership was less than agreeable, especially with you of all people.

Let's just say a partner that you're able to work with is a blessing.

[Itachi really would like to forget Sasori's first partner. Just thinking of that damn snake makes his eyes burn, and his fingers twitch with the urge to grab something and squeeze. So he responds to Sasori's other statement instead.]

Yes, it is better to have one you can work with...even if he can be an annoyance and his reckless stupidity makes you have to clean up after him like a child. I do envy your patience.

Perhaps he's still trainable.

[But given the vastness of Deidara's stupidity and uselessness, Itachi doubts it. At least Sasori seems to find ways of getting him to function in a productive capacity.]

[Sasori is absolutely not defending his partner at all.

Really.

He completely agrees with itachi's assesment. Sasori has often voiced the same sentiments himself.

Yet...there's something that agitates him about hearing someone else dismiss Deidara in such a fashion.]

Despite what you may think of Deidara, he is a capable shinobi.

[Sasori hastily catches himself.]

That is, when he bothers to actually listen to me.

[He sighs.]

And my patience is not nearly sufficient for the task at times.

You and Kisame certainly seem to have far fewer disagreements of this nature.

[Of course Itachi expects Sasori to believe Deidara is somewhat capable. If he wasn't, Sasori would have killed him already to save himself the hindrance of picking up his slack. Sasori wouldn't keep dead weight around, so Deidara has to be useful for something.

Possibly a good diversion.]

Kisame and I have very few differences of opinion usually. We have come to an understanding and trust each other in the areas we are most suited to.

[To admit that is not hard, as it does not a genius to notice the comfortable relationship between himself and his partner. Trust is a large part of what allows them to work so efficiently together.]

[Sasori and Itachi are perhaps more alike in this than Itachi might realize...or that Sasori would ever admit to. He smiles, slightly.]

I can see why you'd be so possessive of him in your dream then. A partner that one can trust is a rare and valuable thing for those like us, to be sure.
