Two weeks.... yeah, that's right. We must have gotten here the same day. [He laughs, though there's a buried undercurrent of frustration there, irritation at the near miss; it feels somehow as though fate is mocking him, like he should be checking around for someone hiding behind a rock and laughing. A lot of life feels like that, bothersomely enough.]
So that must mean you.... [And the look Kisame is suddenly giving Itachi must seem potentially more dangerous to him than the dream-questions that hang unaddressed between them--he looks concerned. Worried, even, as he is wont to be when Itachi is overtaxing himself, or getting into a situation of especial danger. Kisame is metaphorically pricking his ears up on the alert to listen, intently scanning what he can see on the Hitomi for injuries, sharply appraising how the hell Itachi has managed to stay in Konoha--it has to be Konoha, if he's in Kirigakure--for two weeks without getting hurt or assaulted. Konoha is larger and more populated than Kirigakure, he'd have expected other villagers to be there.... Kakashi, at least, should have posed some trouble.]
[He is, at the very least, more intelligent than most people like giving him credit for. And right now his brows are furrowed in displeasure, both from trying to figure out Itachi's situation, and from trying to work out how the hell he's going to sneak into Konoha--whatever the era it's from--to reach his partner without mishap. There's a prolonged moment of silence, and the shark man fixes Itachi with a questioning look--this much, at least, he evidently feels he has a right to answers for.] Where do you want to meet, Itachi-san?
[The possibility that he wouldn't want to doesn't even cross Kisame's mind. They've been partners for so long, after all, that it seems only natural that Itachi should be invested in regrouping as well.]
*The look Kisame is giving him is one that Itachi has seen before, if not often. It's the one that his partner gives him when he thinks he's doing something unnecessarily dangerous. It makes him want to sigh in exasperation, as Kisame is quick to warn him of his limits. He's not sure if it is the sign a concerned friend or one of a watcher reprimanding their ward.
Itachi furrows his brow slightly when Kisame begins to speak, only to change his statement. Instead of questioning him on it, he weighs Kisame's own inquiry and what they should do. Kisame cannot come to Konoha. While the ninja of Konoha have accepted Itachi himself--even if not completely--putting Kisame into that situation would not only put his partner in the line of unnecessary danger, but it would also affect Itachi's status as a spy in Akatsuki should it still be required. No it would be best for them to meet somewhere else.*
Perhaps it would be best to meet somewhere that we would not need to behave too inconspicuously. Wave Country should serve as secure, neutral ground.
[That implies something, Kisame thinks. Something he's not exactly sure how far he should read into. Neutral ground implies two opposing forces meeting temporarily to settle something in safety, rather than two long-term partners who are regrouping from a brief separation. It leaves him unsettled, with an indistinct sour taste in the back of his mouth that he can't quite name, but doesn't like--it feels like some veiled nuance of potential rejection and not-quite-hostility that isn't meant to be picked up on.]
[Again, he wants to question him, ask what happened and if he's alright and why he stayed where he must be. Kisame is nothing if not a concerned friend--he knows all too well that Itachi can (usually) take care of himself adequately, that he would never quite be his partner's keeper--but it still seems somehow inappropriate. Maybe he'd be better off asking in person?]
Wave Country is fine, Itachi-san. Just name the time, and I'll be there. [The view skews slightly as Kisame moves, pulling his cloak from its place draped over a bar and starting to pull it on.]
*Itachi wonders why his words seem to cause that slight confusion that he hears in his partner's voice.*
If this place is anything like the one we left, finding a safe location that no enemies would be waiting is always prudent. If this place resembles our own, then Wave Country will be where we can go about un-accosted and plan our next course of action, and possibly avoid any fighting should someone else appear.
*Something about Kisame is off. He seems less familiar with the strange occurences than he had been before. One would think that after already being transferred to one strange world, being sent to another would not be as disconcerting. Rather than question him over the Hitomi about it, Itachi knows it would be best to speak with his partner face-to-face.*
Things have changed again, Kisame. We have much to discuss.
*And this time, instead of keeping his partner in the dark, perhaps he should finally choose whether or not to include him in his plans.*
[Huh. Maybe he'd just misinterpreted things, then? The thought of that is kind of a reassuring one, and he does hope that he's overthinking things for once, being hyper-critical and overly-sensitive in this strange, altered environment where threats seem like they would be substantially different, less predictable than normal.]
Right.... But.... changed again, Itachi-san? [Just what is that supposed to mean? Does he mean Team Hawk's formation, or what?]
*Itachi is not sure why Kisame seems so on edge. Perhaps being in a world that is more like their own puts him more on edge for the possible dangers they are more familiar with.*
It's probably best that we meet in person instead of discussing this through an unprotected medium. We don't know who else could be listening in.
Of course, Itachi-san. [For a moment, Kisame is silent as he fastens his sword belt over his cloak and straps Samehada to his back once more, reaching to settle his hat firmly on his head.]
I'll see you in a half hour or so, then. Unless you'd rather push this back?
*This is something that needs to be handled as soon as possible, Itachi knows, and he does not have anything important--
Oh. He realizes that this is not completely true, but knows the choice he has to make anyway.*
No, we should meet as soon as possible.
*He slides his feet into his shoes, still holding the Hitomi in his hand while he puts on his cloak and reaches for his hat. Placing it on his head, the chimes tinkling from the movement, Itachi looks down and seeing Kisame's waiting face.*
I shall see you shortly.
*He cuts the connection and opens the door to his home, ready to depart. He doesn't think about leaving a message about where he is going. Doesn't think it necessary. His sparring match with Kakashi will just have to wait.*
So that must mean you.... [And the look Kisame is suddenly giving Itachi must seem potentially more dangerous to him than the dream-questions that hang unaddressed between them--he looks concerned.
