California and Kansas have announced that they are holding the state refund checks back from the people, because the states are broke.
Now the Stimulus bill, being signed at this time, has money for every state written into it, everyone knows it is being signed, they know they are getting money, so why are they punishing the people of their states who have been counting on these refunds to help them meet their needs.
This is not a gift to the individuals, it is the taxpayers hard earned after tax money. What the states are doing is nothing short of theft!
If I lived in either of these states I would today go to office, of whatever company I worked for. and up my exemptions numbers. i would not let the states withhold from my paycheck any amount of money over the barest minimum. Why allow them to hold this money, getting interest on it, that the states get to keep, then refuse to give you your overpayment money back.
Wrong, wrong ,wrong.
