Well it's been a while since I updated and to address the last post I have taken a liking to the plants here, or a better appreciation of them, after spending the summer on the Big Island, taking a class on native plants, and now studying la'au lapa'au at UH. I realize I sometimes dont feel so attached to staying here like with California because I dont have a real garden. I still think in terms of mainland plants as far as cultivation and medicine, but my class is changing that pretty quick. We start making tinctures, juice/blood, etc next week. Very excited.
This hawaiian medicinal plant class is exactly what I needed. After a rough first week back, heartbroken after leaving cali and nevada, I feel much better now and capable of falling in love with these islands again, and with living in the present in general. I am going to post some of the things I've learned/will be learning here throughout the semester. Already I've learned 1) how to improve vision 2) how to improve memory and remember dreams 3) how to prevent miscarriages 4) how to make sunscreen using fruit 5) what to put on wounds etc etc. I am desperately trying to figure out what to do about allergies though (short of going to an acupuncturist). Kevin has debilitating allergies due to dust, pollen, and possibly other things and I dont know how to help his congestion and general misery except with neti pot and kisses. All I can think of is stuff relating to strengthening his immune system. He will probably see an acupuncturist, I just need to find a good one for him.
