100 Entries? Let's celebrate with nerdiness!

Feb 09, 2011 15:51

Holy shit really?  My LJ's just over a year old, and I'm hitting my 100th entry!  I consider both a rousing success, considering this is the most I've written...ever, I guess.  At least, consistently.

I'm happy with the way it's been lately, at least writing wise.  I haven't undertaken any multichapter projects and I have a few main things to work on, but at the same time I don't feel obligated to get them done ASAP, so I feel free to write what I want.  I'd usually be worrying about working on my original stories versus my fanfiction, but I...dunno.  I feel like it's healthiest for me to write whatever comes to my head, and most of the time it ends up being fanfic.  Sometimes I'll write some stuff up for littlemouseling regarding our RP, but that's about it.  I'm okay with this, weirdly enough.  I feel like I need to just...be a better writer and a more confident person before I can start on my original stuff.  And honestly, it's always kind of been a goal of mine to write a good, multi-chapter fanfic that people know.  I know most of the best ones don't start on planning to get that big, but I'd love to write something like that.  I feel like if I can finish that, then I'll have the confidence to start writing my own novels. Right now I've been thinking about what to do with my life after college, and I feel like writing for a video game company is something I would really enjoy, so I should look into that more.  Gaming's become a huge part of my life and I want it to stay that way, just as much as my writing and drawing inspiration from music.  idk.  Long story short, I'm working through some shit and I feel like I don't have the energy to waste on nitpicking over my writing, so I'm just doing whatever the hell I want.  So far I'm pretty pleased with it since I've updated on a semi-regular basis since college started up again.

Anyway.  Even though I haven't watched all TOS, I've seen most of Seasons 1 and 2 and a few episodes of Season 3.  So to celebrate my 100th entry, here's a Trek meme (stick around after it since there's an interactive bit after the meme).

Favorite Character

Really this should not be a surprise.  Look at that pointy eared genius what an awkward dork god damn why aren't you real.

Also comes as a hipster:

whoops.  I mean

WHY IS THIS GLASS OF WATER ONLY HALF FULL? IS IT BECAUSE I'M ONLY HALF VULCAN?

Favorite Star Trek Reference in another body of work
Honestly?  Zapp Brannigan in Futurama.  I used to hate him.  Until I started rewatching Futurama after I'd watched TOS.  Then it was blatantly obvious what a Kirk parody he was.  Even the inside of his ship kinda looks like The Enterprise.

Don't tell me you didn't imagine Kirk.  Because I do.  And I laugh my ass off every time.  They even made fun of Shatner's singing career.

Favorite planet
Probably the place from The Apple (without the weird tropical Oompa-Loompas), and the Shore Leave planet.  Oh my god I would have so much fun with the Shore Leave planet.  SO MANY KARL URBANS AND JOHN SIMMS.  SO MANY.

Favorite sound effect
The communicator sound.  I love it; when that was the sound of Amy's cell phone in Futurama I happyface'd so hard.  The weird whistle sound on the intercom that just makes me laugh, it sounds like a boat whistle.

Also, the fight music.  I laugh so hard every single time, but I genuinely enjoy how over the top it is.  DAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAAAAH

Favorite redshirt death
How that stupidly annoying redskirt got turned into a cube and crumpled in By Any Other Name.  I was so satisfied when she got the axe.  >_>;;
Also, jesus, The Apple.  You were downright cruel to everyone.

Favorite canon romance

Me:

You want a real canon romance?  *puts Kenterprise away*  Goddamnit guys.  Fien.

Sarek and Amanda are so fucking badass and adorable I can't even.  Look at that.  Vulcan kissing.  That's what that hand touch is.  Cutest thing ever.  Ever.  Also, Kirk/Gillian (from The Voyage Home) is also pretty fantastic, considering he actually doesn't bone her and they don't really get together.  They have a great dynamic.

Favorite creature

TRIBBLES.
TRIBBLES.
TRIBBLES.
I want one so bad, as long as it wouldn't reproduce at What The Fuck per minute.  So cute.

Favorite non-canon romance
McKock, Kirk/Enterprise (both being uh.  "non canon"), Scotty/Chekov.  There's more at my pairings entry.  Trek is one of those where you can pretty much ship anyone with anyone.

Favorite fanfiction
If you're really curious, I have a few good ones in my Memories (under "Animus").  I don't dare venture into ff.net.  I'm okay in my little niche here.

Favorite McCoy/Spock argument
...y-you're making me pick.  Really.  Really.

Goddammit.

Also, the argument in The Immunity Syndrome.  And the small bitchout in Trouble with Tribbles.  But really, any argument with them I love.  So catty.

Favorite use of phaser
idk, killing someone?  I-It just makes me laugh.

Favorite alien race
Vulcans, fo' sho.  Their culture is really interesting to me, especially since so much is centered around logic stemming from their violent past.  It makes them really interesting to me (since Vulcans still biologically have the memory of extreme violence, I love watching Spock fight).  Plus.  You know.  Haaaands.  I love hands.

Favorite allegory
I thought it was funny how they half-implied at the end of By Any other Name that Spock was kind of a devil-ish figure.  Wh-What.  Pffff.

Favorite Kirk's Girl of the Week
Gillian Taylor from The Voyage Home.  She's not afraid to sass the shit out of Kirk and Spock (sorry, Gillian, Spock wins for saying one of the funniest fucking lines I've ever heard), and when faced with their utter weirdness she takes it pretty well in stride.  She gets shit done and Kirk didn't get into her pants even though the two were obviously attracted to each other.

Also, I weirdly like the green-haired chick from Gamesters of Triskelion.  idk.

Favorite energy/godlike being
I dunno.  Most GODLIKE BEINGS are either machines or kinda bullshit.

Favorite villain
Huh.  You know I kind of have to thMOTHERFUCKINGGORN

Hey, some people have a thing for muscular thighs and a guy with diamond sparkle eyes, right pixie?

Ahh, honestly though?  Hmmm.
Well, KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN for starters.  He was a great villain (god dammit Khan, fuck you fuck you fuck you for being so awesomely evil).

Other than that, I really do like the Romulans.  Their history is so interesting (even if the worldbuilding book really wasn't.  Diane, you write it by yourself next time and I'll give it another go).

Favorite one-episode character
Mirror!Spock and Mirror!McCoy.  I demand to see more TOS Mirrorverse.  Seriously.

Also

AMANDA

She and Sarek are so awesooooome.  I have never seen BAMF-er parents.  UGLY SWEATERS, EMOTIONS ON VULCAN, AND SCRAPBOOKING, FUCK YEAH.

Favorite visual effect
Spock's ears.  I think they look pretty natural, especially for the time.

Favorite disregard of the Prime Directive
McCoy smacking Eleen in Friday's Child.
He smacked a pregnant woman.  That's, to quote just_bolognese , the best fuckoff of the Prime Directive ever.

Favorite plot twist
City on the Edge of Forever, most definitely.  Jesus.

Favorite behind-the-scenes moment
I know this is from the reboot movie, but fuck it

That put me in tears the first time I read it.  I love everything about it.

Also, the fact that McCoy's ring is actually De's.  It was his mother's and he refused to take it off; it has a blue stone on it which he usually wore on the inside so you wouldn't see it, but in some scenes it shifts around.  De wore it because he always wanted to ground himself and remind himself of who he was, so he didn't get lost in the characters he played.  So adorable.

Favorite Roddenberry quote
Haven't...heard any?

Favorite costume

Spock's pinstripe suit in A Piece of the Action

Shit son, break me off a piece of that.

Also, Kirk's fatshirt.  Long live it.

Favorite movie
fffffff I still have trouble deciding.  Voyage Home always makes me laugh, Wrath of Khan was the best, but I think my favorite might be Search for Spock.  And then you know, there's the reboot, which also fifty kinds of fantastic.

Favorite cliche
Spock getting his emotions dragged out of him is always interesting for me to watch (I love angst god dammit).

Also, Kirk boning nearly every woman he runs into never ceases to amuse me.

And everything great was inwented in Russia.

Favorite actor/actress
As much as I adore Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley.  He was such a sweetheart and had a great sense of humor.

(These two were such adorable buddies oh god)

Favorite "future" technology moment
The communicators and the tricorders.  idk.  I just really like them.  Also how McCoy's hyposprays can cure fucking EVERYTHING.

Favorite episode
Well City on the Edge of Forever is kind of a given.  So besides that?

Umm...Bread and Circuses, Journey to Babel, The Trouble With Tribbles, The Immunity Syndrome, A Piece of the Action!, Friday's Child, Patterns of Force, Operation: Annihilate!, The Tholain Web, and The Empath.

And for an additional meme-ish thing I guess.
Request something, anything you want, just no badfic please.  But it can be as cracky as you want to.  I'd prefer a small prompt to go off of, but this is only going to be a commentfic.  It'll be short.  I'm in the mood to write something small, so anything your heart desires!
