[Anyone wanna meet Quisty? Well now's a chance to run into her - possibly literally. Now that the rain has broken, even if it's still a dull day, she's found a pair of sweatpants, fairly concealing tank top, and a pair of running shoes and is taking some exercise up and down some of the roadways. After all, as she said to Allen, out-of-shape ( Read more... )

[Rydia is out and about, though not quite for the same purpose. Naturally restless, she prefers to move about whenever she can, though would not term it 'exercise.' She's wandering along, glancing up to the overcast sky. Lost in thought, the green-haired woman is ripe for a collision.]

[Fortunately Quistis is paying more attention; as she rounds a corner, she notices Rydia in just enough time to dodge left and avoid smacking into the green-haired woman. Still a fairly close call, though, and a bit startling.] Oh, I'm sorry!

[It was, and the near collision caused Rydia to stumble anyway, though she caught herself before seriously losing balance. She meets Quistis' gaze and shakes her head, expression sheepish.]

No, the fault's mine. I wasn't exactly paying attention. Sorry.

[She pauses, realizing where she had seen the woman before. It hadn't been that long ago, though a time which Rydia was still actively trying to forget.]

Quistis, right? How have you been settling in? Did you find your friends?

[How does this woman know...? Wait, perhaps she was part of that... Quistis looks confused for a moment, though a few explanations for an unfamiliar person knowing who she is come to her.]

Yes, and were you part of that... "experiment" thing?

I was that floating...woman. Well, fiend, if you want to get exact.

[Rydia frowned in distaste. She held little regard for the being that owned that body, but it was better than saying she was Cagnazzo, even though Quistis might remember enough to make the connection.]

[Oh. Oh yes, she does remember that, that's not something you see every day, after all. But since Rydia doesn't mention it, she decides to take her cue from that.]

Oh, you're... I might not have this right, but Redia? I'm sorry if I got that wrong, that day was so weird.

It's Rydia, and don't worry about it. That day -well, week- was horrible enough for almost everyone, but I can imagine how much more so it must have been for someone freshly arrived to be thrown into witnessing all that.

[She winced in sympathy.]

[Quistis shakes her head in almost helpless confusion.]

Nothing made sense. Admittedly very little of it makes sense even now, but all of those people being affected didn't make it any better. But you're better now, right?

More or less.

[She shrugs, more affected than she wants to admit but there's only so much she'll tell someone she just met.]

Someone mentioned starting a therapy business, and I think it's far overdue. Hopefully it will do some good around here.

If something like that is what happens on a regular basis, then it probably is far overdue. [Had a small problem with that "experiment" herself, though only a brief one - and while she knew what she hated, she never did and never wants to again go through that.] But as long as you're doing better. You were very helpful to me, if I can ever repay the favor, just call me.

You're welcome! We should all be looking out for each other in a situation like this, anyway. Not everyone does, but I think most people realize it's better than relying on our captors.

[And she didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, but...]

Well, it doesn't always become that chaotic every month, but there's no guarantee that they'll give us a break. A few people leave town just before the next event strikes and I can't blame them too much, but I try to stay, when I can.

I have no idea why anyone would rely on those... things. They brought us here to begin with, after all, and I highly doubt anyone came by personal choice. [No one she'd spoken to had.

And Quistis had to sigh at Rydia's news... wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.] As long as that's not what always happens? I can only take seeing people I know as my best friend and our worst enemy once.

I've heard of them recycling experiments before, but I have yet to see this for myself. So...at worst, it won't happen again for a while.

[Not the kind of comfort she wants to give, but Rydia is nothing if not truthful. Better Quistis be prepared than be comforted by a lie.]

If you haven't found the barracks, I can point the way--though I prefer a clearing, myself. And I don't know how much the idea of learning from a local spirit appeals to you, but I always mention to newcomers that it's a good idea to at least learn from the healing spirit, if you have no such magic for yourself. Too often around here, we need it.

[She always prefers being prepared, much as some lies can be infinitely more comforting.] I know magic, but it doesn't sound like the same kind - on our world, we can draw spells from monsters, and we don't have those "spirits." But I've used more than I intended to since coming here... I wonder if I could draw magic from them?

...draw magic? Are you from Seifer's world, then? He mentioned that, too.

[Rydia's fascinated, though she shrugs at Quistis' question.]

You can try, but I wouldn't know. Magic is a talent honed over years of practice on my world. Either you know it or you don't, but we can't 'draw' from anything.

[Oh, dear. That name provoked a sigh and a little eye-rolling, though she did try to keep it from Rydia. No sense in getting other people involved.] Yes, I know Seifer.

[Oh look, let's change the topic.] Drawing isn't an automatic skill, but anyone can learn how to do it if they fill some prerequisites and practice. Sort of like riding a bike - as long as you have a bike, you can try until you get it.
