okay. explain the positions to BAM... obviously theres an offense and a defense with the offense trying to score and the defense being like "hell no bitch". 11 of each yah?
so on offense, going from the scrimmage line, theres the offensive line. there are 2 guards, 2 tackles, and the center, and and end or two. usually 1. the center is the one... in the center... who snaps the ball to the quarterback. the guards are on either side of the center and the tackles are on the outside. the line is just supposed to keep any of the other team from sacking the quarterback and guard anybody else that has the ball. oh and the end. theyre like... "i dont know if i want to block or go out for a pass..." the side the end on is the called the strong side... tying that in, i know youve heard that. when they dont block, they cover the runningback and when they dont do that, they can go out for a pass. i dont really like this position, i think its kind of dumb, but theyre replaced with a 3rd receiver a lot of times anyway. their main importance... like... the oline basically just cant catch passes. but the end is usually uncovered since theyre extra, so as a last resort you can throw to him. i mean ive played it before... but i think its dumb. uh. pretty much, this is just the guy who does whatever the hell the coach says to do.
anyway! then there are two receievers, a couple of runningbacks, and the quarterback. the quarterback calls the plays and throws or hands off the ball. generally, the receiever goes out for a long pass and the runningbacks get short passes or handoffs. those are all your ridiculously fast people. because the receievers got to get out there as soon as the ball is snapped and waste anybody trying to block them. then the runningbacks usually have more burst speed than the receievers. theres a lot of variation in runningbacks. like you have your beasts who just plow through everybody for a few yards, and then you have your agile little bitches who can just cut around everybody.

okay and then on defense... im not so good with. you have 2 ends, 2 tackles, 2 outside linebackers, a middle linebacker, 2 cornerbacks, and 2 safeties. um. the cornerback pretty much just stays on the receiver. the safeties... theyre like "hoshit, this is it" so theyve gotta really be able to take a bitch down. they have to cover the receiever too and they.. intercept stuff. and then everybody else... does... other stuff. (no seriously, i know nothing about defense.)
Something interesting. The offense's left tackle is the best at blocking for passes and they're usually more agile. And then the right tackles have to be a complete wall because he's almost solely charged with protecting the runningback :D The beastly runningbacks are called powerbacks - which I think is a cool ass name. hooch would fill in as runningback a lot and he would definitely be considered a powerback... I don't know if he's just not able to cut around people, or if he just refuses to go around anybody. But those are the kind that you don't want to tackle because they'll either take you down first or you can drag off of them. I think that's AWESOME. I mean I have like no brute strength... So it's just so amazing to me.

For defense, right on the line are the 2 tackles and the 2 ends. Technically, the defense players can be anywhere on the field they want as long as it's on their side. Just. Usually they line up the smart way. The ends line up with the tackles on the OL and the defensive tackles line up with the guards. You'll hear DTs called defensive guards or nose guards sometmes too. Then you have 3 linebackers, a middle and 2 outsides. They'll usually either line up with the tackles and ends or behind them some. Outside of them are the cornebacks, who usually just line up wherever the hell they want, and then a few yards back will be your two safeties. The end on the right (the QB's left) is gonna be the fastest because he wants to stop that pass and left is usually the QB's blind side, which is why offense needs a good left tackle to block for him. On the defense's left is gonna be the monster of an end who's gonna try to kill the right tackle and take out the runningback. The DTs are inside of them, and they will almost always go for the QB. Just like the offense has a strongside and a weakside, so does the defense. Their strongside is gonna line up with the offense's strongside, which usually means the outside linebacker on the left is going to be the biggest beast you've ever seen in your life, and if you're running that ball and you don't have the best blockers on earth, you're not walking off that field without a broken bone. The weakside linebacker has to be really fast, because a lot of pass coverage is just up to him. The middle linebacker is basically the head of defense. He's pretty much the most well-rounded defense player. He's got the be able to read the offense's plays, arrange the defense, shed blockers and tacklers, and still be fast enough to take off when he needs to. I think this is the coolest defense position... I mean he just has to be on top of everything and he can't hold back at all. In 9th grade... We had the most badass cornerback ever. I think his name was George. I mean he was a typical cornerback in that he was fast and covered the receiver and made some interceptions... But I mean this guy was hardcore. You didn't even have to worry about him blocking the receiver from the ball, because most of the time, that receiver wasn't even gonna get past the scrimmage line with him in the way. And that's the best way I have to explain amazing corners to you. That guy was insane for real. I think he was Russian. Anyway, the safeties have strongside and weakside with the big guy of course staying on top of the runningback... (I swear you have no idea how important a strong line is...) hooch is pretty much right with the safeties. Everything a safety does has to be precise. They have to be pretty fast since they've got to cover the receiver and they have to be good tackles too. A lot of times they are the star interceptors since they are pretty much the last chance the defense has got.
And that's as short an simple as I could make it :D
