the coming of the parents

It's parents weekend, and of course it's raining the day mine happen to come down. Figures. I spent most of yesterday and the day before with Aimee and her parents, who are really sweet people. I was worried they'd be more awkward around me than the last time I saw them, in August, when I wasn't with Aimee. But they were cool as cucumbers and really swell. We went out to dinner last night, and her mother guilt-tripped me about not getting a picture taken for the yearbook, and I explained to her that her Catholic guilting wouldn't work on me, since I've been conditioned since birth to feel guilty about everything, so I'm used to it.
I went out last night with Aimee and Andrea to The Dirty Truth, a cozy bar with dark red walls and an impressive beer list. I had a Guinness. The people that frequent the bar are a combo of ultra-hipsters and older Northampton salts with grizzly beards and plaid flannel everything. I liked it a lot.
And now the 'rents arrive in t-minus three hours. I made reservations for this Italian restaurant downtown, and they're coming to see me perform at Montage tonight. All that remains to be done is finish some neverending seminar readings and smoke my last cigarette for the day.
I'm also being stalked by the Smith College red-tailed hawk. It swooped on Aimee and I on Monday, and then today I was huddling under a tree and it again swooped, and landed right above me. I think it's out for blood. Fortunately, there are plenty of squirrels around.
