Yesterday was wildlife day at the apartment: fruit flies and baby squirrels. These are different in every regard:

Fruit flies:
Very annoying
Lots of them
All over, in the apartment
But given that we have fruit flies, we've got (I think) the coolest species to have, Drosophila melanogaster itself (the standard genetics experiment fly

also, if there are a lot of them, store fruit and sugar bowls in the fridge, so they have nothing to hang out on. Davis is crawling with insects and critters but I've managed to keep fruit flies down by putting sugary things in bags and boxes.

We moved the bananas off the counter, and sarkat is entertaining herself with experimenting with several kinds of fly traps and her new pet venus fly trap.
