Maybe Red

Sometimes she thinks in red.
Red like blood that pours from bodies; dead, forgotten, buried in the past along with her life. Red like hair, deceiving with dye. Red like brown, back to the original. Brown like the ground in which he’s buried.
She didn’t really love him, really. He broke her. She wanted to be broken. She wanted him to finish what her brother started by leaving and once he had she didn’t know what to do. Thought for a second, maybe, he should fix her again so she could leave but than he disappeared. Sunk beneath her feet where he could do nothing.
She’s still not sure what brown means in her life. She knows brown means humiliation in France, a face no one is supposed to see. A face that stays away when she doesn’t speak. She knows that in a way brown is the mirror, seeing her as clearly as she sees brown.
She knows brown can fix her, break her, give her whatever she wants but she knows it’ll be on brown’s terms. Knows brown has a blonde demon that represents everything red in her life. Knows brown sees mixing colors as sinking down in the ground.
Doesn’t matter though, they’re mixing. Brown and blue coming together; down, down, down. Maybe it’s supposed to be symbolic. Maybe nothing matters and it’s all the same in the end.
