Every individual creates a path in their own journey. A path can lead to many forks as we are faced with a myriad of choices. One person is quite often presented a choice to choose a new path as set for them. Numbers of reasons for them to decide which one path could chosen be contributed by goals, ambitions, mistakes, and tragic. Quite often, we humans are like a river, in which we always find a easy way out , and quite often, the end of the path may not be what we expected to be.
I have a vision of where I want my path to end. And knowing this, the journey to reach to that point is not going to be easy. It would be so nice to coast my way to the end to reach my goals. But if I were to coast my way through, I would miss all the important things to carry on to my next path after I reach the end. So my vision requires me to get out of the river, and put on my dusty boots on, and climb upwards on the mountain. Once I reach the top of the peak, I would know that my hard work and dedication will allow me to see the vision as I hoped to be, which could go on for miles.
After my graduation from High School, I had spend the first 10 years trying to find a easy way out. Quite often, I struggle to reach the goals that I really wanted to accomplish. I was a Quality Assurance in the aviation industry, and I was very good at what I did. I had proved to be a very hard worker and did what I was asked to do. But I was very limited, because I knew that I could do more. So I returned to school at New York and got my AAS in Mechanical Engineering Degree.
Once I had my degree, I moved to Colorado, and started working at Adam Aircraft as a CAD Designer. I had the opportunity to grow, as I was to contribute my experience and skills. I was asked to design a structure to pick up a load of 6,000 lbs, and release the load at a certain height. With what I had learned using my AAS Degree and my experiences, I came up with the concept design, did the stress analysis, created a 3D model, and blueprint, wrote the procedures to build the structure by manufacture and assembly, and performed testes on it. I was very successful, and knew that I had reach the top of the peak and saw many new paths for me to choose.
My long term goal is to get a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. What made me decided to reach that goal is the ability to overcome my fears. When I finished High School, I was very concerned that with my hearing loss, I would not be able to do well in College. So I led my life in the first 10 years trying to get by with what I had. The trials that I had put myself through made me realize that my hearing loss is a little bump in life…it’s the fear that is a big bump that I must overcome. When I had finished my AAS Degree, I looked back, and thought to myself, “I wish I could go back and fix everything.” But would I have learned the important things I needed to know to reach my goals? No, because I’m glad I didn’t get in the river and coasted my way through.
I may have triumph a small mountain by coming to where I am at today, but getting a BS Degree will require me to triumph a much bigger mountain, and I have the ambitions to get there.
