So last year I read all the terrible pathetic puppy entries. They were not very good. Several had a lot in common with Twilight. Only instead of the sparkly vampires and werewolves, there's "manliness" and American exceptionalism. (Or in the case of Beale, Sorcerer elves and cod philosophy.) I would say Beale has a grasp of philosophy as good as any fish. :)

I think that anyone on the Sad Puppies or Rabid Puppies slates who "wonders" if it only got nominated for that reason or if it was truly considered one of the best of the year is fooling themselves.

I'm also not a fan of self-nomination posts. I do like people's posts when they mention things they've read that they like; if they do it around award season time, I don't mind. I use those posts to add to my list of stories I might check out for my own consideration. I then read some of them and not others, usually depending on my mood.

I think they probably tell themselves that all the people who voted for the puppies really read all the stories and didn't pad their ballots with approved stories they didn't read and that proves their merit.
