First of lets start like this. Should we ever talk a bout this...in person one day. Know this, i wont be offeneded by anything okay? Hahah
I don't want to give off this OMG Christian fundamentalist strict job vibe. Really, i'm serious. I just want to help explain things if i can.
We should really talk about free will sometime. I can most likely prove anything you can disprove. I'm just not sure live journal is the place. hahaha, my eyes are really starting to hurt and the text is kind of swimming across the page.
Just one thing i want to clear up i think. DON'T GO BY ANYTHING THE DIVINCI CODE SAYS. okay, it's fiction. Fiction, fiction fiction. It would be like if i decided to write a story based on world war II but instead of america winning i decided that the germans would win. It's really distorted fiction.
Now you could say "but heyy? the bible is written by a bunch of guys coudln't that be fiction too?" Nooo. The Bible is written under the impression of the spirit of God? So perhaps that sounds a little nutty.
I think about that sometimes. That if i wasn't raised christian i would probably have to do one heck of a job swallowing the whole bible concept. But i'm not stupid. I don't just blindly go with this okay? I know i beleive this because i've studied up on it.
I'd like to hear t his stories of free will that you say might disprove certain things. I agree with you about this who can rule over life and death bit. Nobody, life is life and death is death but...if you created those things then it's quite possible that you could rule over them no?
And that bit about being christlike, yes, yes tough. But realisticly--no one can do that. It's impossible. That because we sinned. WE SIN, all the time. It's human nature. One of the apostles, Paul (who was formerly known as Saul and a forerunner in the persecution of christians, was convereted by God and became one of church's strongest leaders in a missionary type sense) said in Roman's 7:15-" I do not understand what i do. for what i want to do i do not do but what i hate i do and i i do what i do not want to do i agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer i myself who do it, but it is the sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For i have the desire to do good but i cannot carry it out."
Skip a few verses, hmmm hmm, pick up again in ohhh say verse 24? "what a wretched man am i! who will rescue me from this body of death? thanks be to God through jesus christ our lord. So then i myself in my mind am a slave to god's law b ut in the sinful nature am a slave to the law of sin."
This has nothing to do with freewill. You can have freewill and have a sinful nature as well. One is instinct, one is choice. Two similar but very very differnt things. That is why it's impossible for anyone to be EXACTLY like christ. But we're supposed to strive towards that why? it isn't our ultimate goal, but it's supposed to be a factor.
I could go on and on b ut i'll stop because this is probably boring you? Maybe we'll talk about this in person sometime when i'm actually awake and i havn't spent 8 million hours at work.
P.s-I always like analogies with quotes, the drug one gets Me-props even though i don't entirely agree with it. :]
P. P. S- I apologize for any misspellings. When i said the text was swimming i really meant that. I'm on drugs too right now. Probably two Advil cold and sinus and a lot more tylenol than i should be taking.
Gahhh! i forgot another thing. About that gospel of judus "Scholars have yet to find any unique contribution to the knowledge of the historical Jesus or his first followers in the Gospel of Judas, though some scholars have made statements indicating that it may have such potential"
thats why it isn't in the bible. For the same reason the catholic apocrypha isn't in the bible. And i've read the apocrypha, it's not bad, just unnecessary.
the gospel of judas goes on to say that judas was stoned by the remaining eleven disclples, rather than how he, in actuality hung himself. It also portrays him as the favorite of the disciples, claiming jesus was going to teach him "Some of the wonders of god"
So, in my opinion? it probably isn't in there because it just seems like a one sided overly bias account that sheds judas in a much better light and makes him appear to be jesus' favorite.
Funny thing is up to a third of the coddex in the gospel of judas isn't even legible. No one is really trying to hide it. In fact alot of people think it might be valuable to those concerning the second century. It's just not valid enough to be put it in with other things that have been studied by scholars, cross refrenced with historical texts of that day and age and so on...
You're more than welcome to type all you want. It's pretty impossible to offend me as well. I think I would come off as more offensive actually...
i know the da vinci code is fiction, but the writer of course has studied Jesus. He says the story is fiction the but he believes the way he portrayed Jesus is true, and like we agreed, i should research things.
and i was mixing my own thoughts in when i was talking about the davinci code, like the water to wine thing.
I don't have much info about some things i mention, like I'm not even sure if the gospel of judas is the right name for what i'm talking about.. I think it is though.
I do know enough bible stories and enough about the way it works and I do have common sense to discern the way I think about them.
I'm not totally opposed to there being a god, just not in the way people think of it, not the jesus kind of god, not as some entity, i don't know, more like an collective engergy type thing?
Really I think it's all just silly, because every time I even talk about this I keep coming up with more sillyness to talk about.
Mostly i think god's a pretty selfish god- that would create everything and then tell everything to worship him or go to hell, when he already knows if they're going to go there or not. That's eternally, that's an eternal decision.. and all this supreme being stuff can be pretty complicated to figure out in the time you're alive. If time is even real to start with.
Even if the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob er whatever he is exists, and the bible is right. We couldn't know, because the bible was translated from the orginal hebrew (one of the hardest languages to translate in the world!). it has tons of errors and things missing. I heard the number 666 of the antichrist is 616 in the recently found oldest version of the bible in hebrew. -again something i don't know much about as far as researching goes.
We really should talk about this some more.
I could certainly go on and on as well, and livejournal has had enough.
We may not be the dust on someone's pillow, but i think we're alot smaller and a lot more clueless that we think we are.
Regardless, one day. We'll chat. At this rate, one day will be six years from now because we never hang out when we say we're going to. In fact, we never really hang out at all. Maybe once every two months? thats being generous
