fifteen more days and he's almost sure he's found the
perfect place

we're saving our newspapers and asking around for boxes
i'll steal a roll of tape or two

everything in it is new no
old stains or chips in the porcelain
no broken refrigerator door
soon i will take down the framed art from these walls
and fold up my calendar
empty out my mailbox
change my address

i'm getting out of here.

there's so much glamour in heading west
and so much hope in heading east
i'm moving into a great little place right off astoria
and i'm taking your sweaters and your belt and i'm leaving you
right where you belong
on the mattress on the floor in the basement with no door and
the bedframe still in pieces in the corner.
i'd like to see you again to say "see you when i come around."
it isn't about the money so much
as the wishing well
but i can't say that i don't want to ask,
and i will be forwarding my new address

so do me one last favor
for the first time in years
and tell her to grow up, that
this isn't about what we had
but what we are
because you know that i'm leaving for more reasons than just this
and that i don't want to be with you now
i've finally learned what it is to be me
without you

but i'd like to have one last look at you before i go.
