Recs and other stuff
Happy New Year, flist! ♥ I only have one fandom resolution this year, and that's to finish my QaF character love series. My QaF love is on an extended vacation somewhere, but I'm determined to call it back for long enough to do my last three character pic spams. *nods firmly*
In other news, my Shadow of the Templar discussion post has nearly 300 comments now. O_o Apparently I am not the only addict! We are actually considering starting up a SotT community; name proposals include team_templar and betternarttheft. Anyone got any other suggestions before we make a decision?

Almost Crimes by marseverlasting (Charlie/Draco, others, NC-17, warnings)
This fic definitely won't be for everybody -- aside from the rare pair, it's dark and gritty, and there's not much romance to speak of. But if you're up for something a little painful and a little challenging, I urge you to give this fic a try. Charlie is really rather lost here, hiding out in Romania after the war with a seemingly unending supply of vodka; Draco, who shows up in town partway through the fic, isn't much better off. Their relationship doesn't have the usual hurt/comfort dynamic (though there's a bit of that); it's rough, real, a little destructive.
The author's rich powers of description really bring this universe to life, and the ending...gah. It's brilliantly done, and I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. (If any of you read the fic, I'd love to hear your opinion on the ending.)
59 Days by goneoffthelump (Harry/Ron, NC-17)
And now for something completely different! This is an absolutely pitch-perfect Harry/Ron first-time fic. As I told the author, this is exactly how a Harry/Ron story should go; the physical and emotional awkwardness covering up the very real affection between them really melted my heart. And the sex is detailed and imperfect and hot. So good.
Objects of Sentimental Value by mindabbles (Remus/Sirius, R, AU)
This is a lovely "R/S raise Harry" AU which beautifully captures both the anguish of James and Lily's deaths and the happiness Remus and Sirius eventually find together. I don't always like kids in fic, but there's one minor child character in this (who never actually appears on screen) that kinda steals the show for me. Hee.
A Winter Storm, or The Marks of Change by starla_kid (Remus/Sirius, R)
The formatting of this one makes it a little difficult to read, but I really liked the mood of it -- the edge of violence that colors Remus's desire for Sirius, and the way that frightens Remus. And Peter has a wonderful role in this too.
Parchment by iamshadow (Harry/Ron, PG, angst)
Gorgeous, quiet fic about Ron writing letters to Harry after Harry disappears. Whether they're friends or more than that, these two need each other so much. The ending made me choke up a little. ♥
Cauterize by lady-altar (Dennis Creevey gen, not rated)
Short, very powerful piece about Dennis using his brother's camera to photograph people's scars after the war. I like the wide variety of "scars" portrayed here, and the gentle exploration of how we as human beings deal with loss.
Alohamora Society: A Young Wizard's Guide to Etiquette by Anonymous (Harry/Draco, R, EWE)
There's lots of stuff to love about this one. The premise -- Draco tutoring Harry in Pureblood wizarding etiquette -- is fresh and funny, and there are some lovely little amusing moments with minor characters like Kingsley and Augusta Longbottom. But what made me adore this story was Harry himself. There aren't enough fics out there that explore what it really meant for Harry to have grown up in a cupboard, and specifically what that means about his need for love. This story explores it beautifully. There were several parts that simply broke my heart, but the author takes things to a very satisfying conclusion.

Christmas Eve 2 AM by naadi (Harry gen, G)
*sobs* Oh, god. A young Harry staring longingly at a gorgeous Christmas tree, under which there are no presents for him.
Left Unsaid by Anonymous (Harry/Draco, R, character death, blood, dark)
This is another one of those pieces that's both art and fic all at once. The art is exquisite, the story very powerful, and the ending almost maddeningly ambiguous!

Gah! Who knew these two would look so gorgeous with facial hair??
