QaF recs and some Verbotene Liebe observations
There has been a bit of a dearth of good QaF fic lately, but I have read two excellent ones in the past few days:
Rest for the Weary by gmta_nz (Brian, Joan, angst)
Beautiful, subtle double drabble about a moment between Brian and Joan near the end of her life. Read this one a few times -- I promise you'll see new things in it each time.
Measure of a Man by severina2001 (Brian/Justin, R)
I am so thrilled to see Severina writing again! She's back in fine form with an immensely satisfying resolution to the bashing arc. Justin took quite a hit in some of the comments on this story (and I will admit to the occasional moment of frustration with him myself), but the more I think about this fic, the more he feels exactly right to me.
Random thoughts about Verbotene Liebe:
1. I have never seen a show where the plot depends so heavily on people overhearing things they're not supposed to hear. Someone (usually Christian) is constantly walking up behind people who are talking about him and revealing all sorts of secrets, which naturally leads to indignation and angry confrontations. It makes me laugh. Surely they can come up with another way to move the plot along?
2. There is almost no good English-language fic in this fandom. (Or if there is, I haven't been able to find it.) Wonder why that is -- the fandom's just too small? The ongoing nature of the storylines means any fic will be jossed right away?
3. This is a gorgeous fanvid about Christian and Olli -- great song, cool effects, very stylishly done.
4. I have a total girl crush on Judith, Christian and Olli's roommate. She is freakin' adorable, especially in the latest clip (109). :-)
5. They play great music at No Limits. I totally want the soundtrack to this show!
