I know this is probably an obnoxious thing to complain about, but do you ever feel like you have too many choices? SO and I have just spent the last hour or two talking and trying to make some life decisions, and I just feel so...confused. There are so many different things we want to do, and so many factors up in the air, and there's no one to tell us what the right thing to do is. Welcome to adulthood, eh? ;-)
Speaking of life choices, I want to pimp a cool new thing that
lionille has put together (and that I will be helping with). It's a journal called
on_the_a_list, and basically it's for anyone from any fandom who wants to be reminded to put themselves "on the A list" every once in a while. The idea is that we'll all leave comments with one thing (or more!) that we've done to take care of ourselves or our physical wellbeing.
lionille and I will be taking turns making posts every week or so with questions like "What made you laugh today?" and "What have you done for your body today?" Hopefully it will be a reminder for all of us to step away from the keyboard once in a while and do something to take care of ourselves.
If you're interested, please feel free to friend
on_the_a_list and leave a comment on the first post. :-)
Now on to tonight's rec...
Good Sex by
wrenscribblesPairing: Brian/Justin
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: None
Summary: Gapfiller for 405, post-episode.
My Comments:
Mmmmm. This is probably my favorite 405 gapfiller. I have read and enjoyed other fics where there's a little more drama -- ie, where Justin breaks down when he gets back to the loft after leaving Chris Hobbes -- but the very quietness of this one has always felt a bit truer to the characters for me. Justin is tired but calm, and Brian is simply there for him, ready to listen or accept or give whatever Justin needs. The author has a real talent for writing domestic moments between Brian and Justin, particularly the gentle intimacy and affection they share.
I also really like the way the author includes Daphne in this fic, following up on the scene between her and Brian at Kinnetik and acknowledging that Daphne was just as worried as Brian was. And the ending is incredibly beautiful -- a perfect example of Brian speaking with his body rather than with words, and of Justin understanding him completely.
Excerpt:
Brian's still awake when Justin slides the door open, which shouldn't surprise Justin at all. Half-dressed and sitting at the bar counter, bent over a pile of paperwork that's probably from Ted, judging by the crease between his eyebrows. When Brian hears the door he looks up and lifts one, shifts back onto the barstool just so. Waiting.
Braced. Justin thinks back over the nights lately when he's walked in like this and damn near tackled Brian to the floor, hyped on adrenaline and aggression and just plain power, and he might apologize if Brian hadn't gripped his flesh just as roughly and panted like he'd never come so hard in his life.
Good sex is good sex. Brian taught him that.
If you enjoy, please leave the author some love!
