It seemed dumb, implausible, and over the top.

Yep. I try not to question these sorts of plots because that way lies madness, but if I'm rolling my eyes in the theater, well...not good. (Also: Spock yelling "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" Major eye-roller for me. I get that it was a shout-out to TOS and such, but it just did not work for me for that character in that moment. But then I kind of hate revenge plots in general. Meh.)

I enjoyed how they developed Kirk and Spock's friendship, though I don't ship them AOS at all. (TOS a bit) and I actually enjoyed Spock/Uhura more this time around.

Yes, agreed! I thought Uhura was really solid, and I actually liked Quinto's Spock more this time around than I did in the first one. Their argument worked fine for me because, as you said, it's not like the movie was actually going to go into their bedroom and show us that.

Sad at lack of Chekov too but I loved his save at the end.

Yeah. I think I actually whispered to SO in the theater that it was about time he got a chance to do something other than run around haphazardly in a situation he really wasn't prepared for.

And Bones' reaction to Kirk's death got me way more than Spock's.

I also liked Kirk's look of relief when Bones didn't get blown up by the torpedo. Those were, like, the only real K/M moments in the whole thing. I guess also Bones asking if Kirk is okay after Pike dies. Okay, three. :-P

I hated that he was just a catalyst for Jim to get back his ship and kick ass. (The over the top attack on Khan while he didn't even defend himself was awful. I was so frustrated with Kirk (emotionally compromised much?)

YES. Did I mention how much I hate revenge plots? I did love the first two scenes between Kirk and Pike -- first the reaming out and then especially the bar conversation. ♥

I may need to get back into Trek because hockey is making me a little miserable at the moment -- every time my team loses I get really stressed and upset, LOL. (Ie right now.) I need something with a happy ending. :-/
